Description

LESSON PLAN NAME: ……………………………… LENGTH OF LESSON: 15 MINUTES

1. THE TEACHING CONTEXT: My students: - YOUNG STUDENTS FROM 20 TO 30 YEARS OLD. - FEMALE AND MALE. - SPANISH NATIVE SPEAKERS. They are studying English because THEY WANT TO BECAME TEACHERS. Class takes place FROM 4:30 PM TO 6:00 PM, TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS, FROM FEBRUARY TO JUNE 2020. In the place we have class, there ARE 25 CHAIRS, ONE BOARD, A TELEVISION, AND THE ROOM IS SIZED THREE BY FOUR METERS. Students’ CEFR and/or ACTFL level or range of levels is B1 - B2

2. MATERIALS: A VIDEO, A MIND MAP, AND PICTURES.

3. OBJECTIVE(S): By the end of the lesson, students will know better the different meanings and uses of the verb "to get" in order to improve their vocabulary. Relevant to this lesson, I assume the students already know: the concept of the verb "to get" and some of its basic uses. In this lesson, I anticipate students will be challenged by: understanding the different uses of the verb "to get" to form sentences. To address/avoid these challenges, I plan to: explain each noun and verb using the video as reference and the pictures to give examples of each case. I will assess the students’ learning during these stages and specific activities: by taking a quiz to them, so I will see how much they learned.

A video.

It would have been better to include subtitles to the video, in order to improve student´s understanding. So in that way, they also would have recognized the use of the verb "get" in the conversation. Besides, they would have not only practiced their listening but also realized the use of the verb get. Maybe it would have been more useful to play the video twice. It would have been better to write the questions that I prepared before the video was played. I liked when one of the students described the main idea that I wanted to emphasize. . I did not control my time very well, because I just described the main meanings of the verb get. However, I also wanted to explain the use of the verb get in phrasal verbs and in other expressions. So students would improve their knowledge about the different uses of that verb. I also prepared many examples in order to explain the phrasal verbs that I had chosen for my presentation, but I just think about the time and just put it aside. At some points It turned very difficult for me to make students participate, so I have to improve it. To be honest, the quiz I prepared was an easy one, so I must have make it more

Final Reflection When I chose the verb "get" to teach, I mainly wanted to focus on the different uses of it, not only on the main meanings. Besides, I think this is a good word for improving our vocabulary, because it has many uses. Maybe it would have been better to emphasize on phrasal verbs, at least on those which are confusing or some expressions with the verb get that are not well known. So, in that way it would have been more challenging for students. As I said, including subtitles to the video would have been a great idea too, because it would have helped students to recognized the use of the verb get in the conversation. For example, talking about my video, Moe (one of the characters of the video) used this sentence "I got behind on my beer payments". In this case he used the phrasal verb "got behind" and it was a good example of the use of the verb get in a phrasal verb....
