You listened to a speech by the head prefect of your school during your school’s English Week. The following comment was made by the head prefect:

Social media has made us less social.

Do you agree with the statement? Write an essay of at least 250 words. Social media makes daily communication a lot easier. The majority of the student have their social media account so they can communicate with their friend and find a lot of new online friend. Social media can connect us to many new people and we can socialize more easily online. They have a point, but I agree that social media has made us less social. Social media has made us less social because of lack of face-to-face interaction, might cause problems with offline relationships, and might be cyberbullying victims on social media. Firstly, the reason social media made us less social is because of the lesser face-to-face interaction we make offline because of too much time spend on social media. You might be anti-social if you are too addicted to social media. By that time, your social skill will become worse and you would not be able to talk properly with the person you want to talk to. You will be the awkward person that people do not want to talk to. An anti-social person tends to feel anxious when going out in public. For example, they only can communicate properly by using social media. Thus, less face-to-face interaction makes your own life miserable and uncomfortable. Secondly, social media has made us less social because it might cause problems with offline relationships. Some people's relationships ended because of social media. People can slander the person they envy easily without any explanation. People just want to hear what they want and not the truth. In the end, the person that being slandered is isolated from society. Some people also end up with arguments face to face because of miscommunication on social media. Therefore, social media can get you into problems with offline relationships. Finally, social media has made us less social because you might be a cyberbullying victim. Cyberbullying can cause depression and make the victim feel less comfortable and anxious to socialize with people. They tend to keep it to themselves and try to hide from society because they are scared they might be a victim again. As a result, they also become anti-social and do not want to socialize. Being cyberbullied can cause trauma that can destroy someone’s life. Therefore, social media increase the chance of being a victim of cyberbullying. To conclude, social media made us less social because of lack of face-to-face interaction, might cause problems with offline relationships, and might be cyberbullying victims on social media. With that many

disadvantages, I agree that social media made us less social. Social media should be used properly as it may cause causalities to people that take it for granted....
