ACTIVITY: Let us listen to two music clips that we will be played in class. CD Track 1: [Tone Contagion] CD Track 2: [Baleleng (The Mermaid’s Song), arr. for piano & orchestra – Alejandro Consolacion] ANALYSIS: 1. As you listened to Track #1, what did you hear? Describe. Answer: The sound is wave. Mechanical disturbance in matter that originates from source and is sent outwards 2. Next, describe what you heard from Track #2. Answer: As I hear the track #2. It felt familiar because that soundtrack is my father's favorite. That's why I'm familiar with that sound. 3. Compare what you heard between the two tracks. Are there any similarities? What are the differences? Answer: I believe they have a similarity in that the composer understands when to raise and reduce the notes. And I believe the variances are due to the track's tone and dynamics. 4. List down 3-5 words that you may associate with what you heard from Track #1. The words may be anything: nouns, names of places, people, adjectives, feelings, abstract ideas, or verbs. There is no wrong answer, as long as you can explain sensibly/artistically why you chose those words to describe what you heard from the first track. Answer: Intense, Unique, Wave. Because it really is different from any other track that I heard before. 5. Following the same idea from number 4, list down 3-5 words that you may associate with what you heard from Track #2. Elaborate why you chose those words. Answer: Calm, Deep, DDram Because it reminds me of the Television drama entitled “Baleleng” that this song used as a official song track.

ACTIVITY: LISTENING Let us listen to a sample piece of music: [Track #4: “Pen-pen de Sarapen”] ANALYSIS:

After listening to the track above, let us answer the following questions: 1. Describe the melody of “Pen-pen de Sarapen”. Listen to the intervals between the pitches. Does it generally move in steps or in leaps? Draw a line graph of its shape. Answer: The song's melody usually progresses in steps. It's because the majority of the notes in the song are in the range of C-D, which implies a step movement. 2. Listen to the harmony (combination of sounds) in the piece. Does it sound pleasing or does it irritate you? How does it make you feel? Answer: The harmony has a wonderful tone to it, and it reminds me of my youth. Because of the rhyme, it has a pleasing ring to it, creating a lovely harmony. It brings back memories for me because this song was used to accompany a game throughout my childhood and is still used to accompany a game now. 3. Take note of the range of the melody. Is it narrow or wide? Answer: A melody's range is the amount of space it takes up within the range of pitches that the human ear can detect. 4. Does the music change from soft to loud (dynamics) or does it remain the same all throughout? Answer: Yes, It remain the same all throughout. 5. What personal experience from your childhood can you associate with this song? Answer: Maybe, happy tone and playing this song when I was a kid. ACTIVITY: LISTENING Listen to sample music: [Track #12: Piano Piece in EB-A. Roldan] ANALYSIS: 1. Based on what you heard, give descriptions about the speed and mood of the piece using your own words. Answer: Based on what I have heard the speed of this Track is really speed and its good in ears. 2. Explain why you chose those words in class. Answer: I chose those words because i can really say that its relaxing just by listening to this kind of song track. 3. If this piece were to be background music for a film, what would be the scene that comes your mind? Answer: It can be a background music of a dancing film. 4. If this piece were to be used as background for a TV advertisement, what product would it be used for? Why would it be effective? Answer: I think it can be used in a product that related to dancing like shoes. It can be a advertisement about shoes or anything you can put in feet that can used in dancing.
