Association of Acute Otitis Media with Nutritional Status in 0-5 years old children in East Jakarta Anisa BM1 , Alviandi W2 Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia1 Ear, Nose and Throat Department Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta, Indonesia2 Abstract Introduction Acute Otitis Media (AOM) is inflammation which occur on middle ear, including eustachius tube, mastoid cavum, and happened less than two weeks. This disease is often found in 0-5 years old children, caused by immature and flatter middle ear structure. Some studies also found wasted children are experience more cases of AOM, but other studies conclude that AOM more likely developed in children with obesity. Methods Cross sectional method was used in this study. Subject was chosen with multistage stratified random sampling and spatial random sampling which select subject based on their house number shown by satelit. Data was taken from May 4th to June 18th 2012 using questionaire interview and physical examination was done by ENT doctor using otoscope and audiometry. To determine patient's nutritional status we measure their weight and height that was plotted to WHO-CDC curve. Result The result showed from 125 children 0-5 years old there was 99 children with complete data which consist of 10 wasted children (10,1%), 12 normoweight children (12,12%) and 77 obese children (77,78%). There was 22 0-5 years old children with AOM and this group consist of 4 wasted children (18,18%), 2 children with normoweight (9,09%) dan 16 obese children (72,72%).
