Description of Procedure A blood urea nitrogen (BUN) test measures the amount of nitrogen in your blood that comes from the waste product urea. Urea is made when protein is broken down in your body. It is usually performed during a CMP test Indications A BUN test is done to see how well your kidneys are working. it is ordered if there are signs and symptoms of liver problems.
Interpretation of Findings BUN (blood urea nitrogen): 6 to 20 mg/dL,
Potential Complications There is very little risk involved with having your blood taken. Some risks associated with having blood drawn are excessive bleeding, ainting or feeling lightheaded, hematoma, Infection.

Nursing Interventions (pre, intra, post) There are no special preparation needed for this test. The patient will be informed that blood will be drawn. Educate client about the meaning of the tests and what interventions can be done to correct them
Client Education When the needle is inserted to draw blood, you may feel moderate pain. Some people feel only a prick or stinging. Afterward there may be some throbbing or slight bruising. This soon goes away.
Nursing Interventions Empty client’ s bladder in the morning and flush that urine away. Record the time. For the next 24 hrs save all client’ s urine passed in the container provided. Return the sample container to the laboratory as instructed....
