A research study on “The effects of five weeks of kickboxing training on physical fitness” published by Muscle, ligaments and tendons journal in 2014, 30 male subjects were randomized into a kickboxing group and a control group. Each group exercised 60 minutes a day 3 times a week during a period of five weeks. The subjects were tested on muscular power, aerobic power, anaerobic fitness, flexibility, speed and agility, body composition, squat jump and counter movement jump in before and after the training period. The kickboxing group showed improvements on upper-body muscle power, aerobic power, anaerobic fitness, flexibility, speed and agility after training, whereas body composition, squat jump and counter movement jump did not change for both groups. The conclusion states that kickboxing as a practice was effective to change many physical variables, it is useful to enhance physical fitness but a balanced nutritional practice needs to be integrated into the exercise routine.
