1.0 INTRODUCTION

Our group were assigned the task to analyzing a speech, therefore we decided to pick a speech delivered by Lynne Franklin from the TEDx Talks which was recorded at TEDx event. We took video of the speech from YouTube as a guide for our project, where it took place in December 2017. We can tell from the video that the speaker is delivering an informative speech about reading people’s mind through body language. After an incident, where a boy threatened her to kill with a machete, speaker decided to learn everything she could about the persuasion. As a result, she become a neuroscience, discovering how the brain works and how to connect with others. From that, she worked with organizations to enhance their performance, productivity, and profit through persuasive communication, and she has published a book called Getting Others to Do What You Want which based on her own research and study. In part due to her marketing and consulting business, Lynne is a part of the National Speakers Association and the President-elect of its Illinois chapter.

2.0 SUMMARY OF THE SPEECH Lynne Franklin is a mind reader and she studied how the brains work and how to build rapport with people. She started the speech by questioning the audience about how they would like to be a mind reader because it has crossed her brain’s thinking but not to the others. She wants to use all the information that she knows about mind reader by written a speech with full organized. She pointed out that people’s brain process information in three ways and their body language actually tell you what their primary style is. She decided to do some research and learned about mind’s reader. Then, the speaker started to talk about a story by her experienced. In order to know about the types of each body language, she used 3 model to represent each type. The first one is James. He is a looker’s type. She pointed out that looker’s brain thinks in pictures and image. The second model is Marge. She is a listener’s type. The speakers pointed out that you should not give this type a lots of eye contact because it could freak them out. The last model that speakers mentioned in her speech was Marina. She is a toucher’s type. Toucher’s brain thinks in feelings and tactilely. In the end, the speaker said that the audience are going to treat everybody else as though they think the same way and they have already seen how awful that can be. Other than that, the speaker also wants the audience to start paying attention to other people’s language to figure out how they think because the magic part could begin here. She also persuades that everyone should give ideas in a way to they get them, they will say yes to you more often.

3.0 ANALYSIS OF THE SPEECH

3.1 THE INTRODUCTION A good introduction will give a positive impact to the speech that you deliver to the audience. In order to ensure an effective, the speaker could get attention and interest from the audience if the speech is extraordinary, relate the topic to the audience, delivered with eye contact and to be presented with positive body language. The speaker, Lynne Franklin gets the audience concentrate by using question the audience method with rhetorical question by asking them if they like to be a mind reader. As a result, the audience will answer to the question mentally rather than aloud.

The presentations began with a clear introduction, but the topic of her speech was not revealed immediately. She stated in the speech that people have different ways of process information and how their bodies communicate in order to understanding information that people can see, hear and touch. She gained audience’s attention when they respond to her question, and it shows that her speech has attracted the interest of the audience. In the speech, the speaker uses eye contact and voices such as intonations, tone, and rhythm to stay connect with the audience.

Besides getting attention and reveal the topic, the speaker also used the credibility to build interest of the listener which based on her personal experienced and knowledge. She shares some of her experience working with a client who never make an eye contact with her that makes the speaker wonders how to interpret his minds through body language. The speaker’s goodwill was showed regarding to her interest on reading’s people mind.

The objective of this speech is to inform the audience how to read people's minds through their body language. The introduction ends by when she is previewing the main point of the speech. She mentioned the preview statements such as understanding how people's body communicates can help you connect with three different types of people. This preview statements make the audience easier to know what topic that speaker want to share is.

3.2 THE BODY

Those who heard the well-organized speech believed the speaker was considerably more professional and trustworthy than those who heard the complex speech, according to the observations. The speaker organized the speech into topical order in order to convey the information more effectively. It is stated when she begins the body with three main points from the speech delivered.

The speaker begins the first point of the speech was when the speaker mentioning about the first body language model, James, by showing them to the audience. He is a looker type. This type represents 75% people of the world. Looker’s brain thinks in 2 ways which is pictures and image. The speaker also stated that looker’s characteristic was they stand up tall and has a good posture. Other than that, those lookers also dressed well and hold a little stress in their shoulder. They also have a thin lip and give a lots of eye contact to the people they talk with.

Next the speaker was mentioning the second point by showing the model, Marge. She is a listener type. This type represents 20% of people in the world. Those listener’s brain thinks in words and sound. The characteristic of listeners are they not as well-dressed as looker’s type, they tend to look down and left when they are trying to remember something. Other than that, listener’s type also has tendency to mumble to themselves and loves to click a pen also banger the pen on the table.

The speaker, Lynne Franklin ended the body of the speech by mentioning and showing the third point, Marina. She is a toucher. Those touchers represent 5% of people in the world. This type of brain thinks in feelings and tactilely. The characteristic of the touchers they are ready to hug people around them either you have met or nor. In addition, they also dressed for comfort rather than style and most of them have a full lip. This type tends to lean in and reach out or touch your arms to make connection by build physical touch....
