Jan Tinbergen born in 1903 was an economist from the Netherlands and statistician in the investigation of business cycles. He is one of the pioneers in applying mathematical tools to economics. In Tinbergen the following contributions can be distinguished: The study of

Tinbergen designed one of the most suitable schemes for the analysis of the effectiveness of public policies; he outlined a general principle of economic theory. He argued that, if the achievement of a set of economic policy goals is to be guaranteed, at least it is required that there be the use of an equal number of economic instruments, taking into account the existence of the principle of instrument efficiency, which is that each instrument must be employed in the goal in which it is most efficient. The Nobel Prize in Economics was established in 1969 by the Bank of Sweden to celebrate the 300th anniversary of its founding, and in memory of Alfred Nobel. The first to receive it were the Dutch Jan Tinbergen and the Norwegian Ragnar Frisch, both pioneers of econometrics and students of dynamic models in economic processes....
