HOT TOPIC AND SPECIFIC PURPOSE Assignment Guidelines OVERVIEW Unit 4 “Let Me Explain” contains all of the assignments to complete your Hot Topics Speech assignment. For this 5- to 7- minute informative speech, you will present information on an interesting topic of your choice. The topic may be about an object, a process, a person, an event, a place, or a concept. Remember the purpose for this speech is to explain, not persuade, something to your audience. This assignment has three parts: 1. Choosing an Informative Speech Topic. 2. Writing a Specific Purpose Statement. 3. Determining General Purpose. HOT TOPIC APPROVAL ~ PART 1 Let’s have some fun with this assignment and choose interesting and unique topics. Your topic does not have to be about some weighty issue facing humanity. When selecting a topic, choose one that is familiar to you and/or one that is fascinating to you that you want to learn more about. If you are having trouble finding a topic, try googling “fun informative speech topics” to get ideas. Unacceptable Topics: Please note that the following topics will NOT be approved. (I just cannot listen to one more speech about these topics):     

MY ASSIGNMENT EXAMPLE I am a rabid fan of the reality show, “Survivor”, and I have always wondered about how the contestants are selected, do the second and third place winners receive any money, and where do the contestants go after they have been voted off the island. The following is how I would complete this assignment:   
