Description

GROUP DISCUSSION WEEK 6 1. What is the role of licensing officer? Is it necessary to have licensing officers? 2. What is the relation between licensing officers and child care providers? As mentioned by Burrow (2021) in her interview, the role of Licensing Officer is to create an environment where each child can feel safe and respected in the childcare setting. Licensing Officers also collaborates in partnership with educators in meeting children’s nutritional needs and keeping them safe from harm, such as toxic materials. Furthermore, the Licensing Officer makes sure that the centre is meeting the prescriptive provision regulations, such as the temperature of the water and sleeping position for infants. Licensing Officers are necessary in the childcare setting as they ensure the health, safety and well-being of children by maintaining safety protocols and practices that work within the guidelines of the ECEBC Code of Ethics, CCLR and CCALA.(Government of British Columbia, 2008, p. 1). Their work certifies that each individual child is protected when they are attending a childcare facility and that they are provided with opportunities for social, emotional and intellectual growth. They are the ones that oversee the practices that educators are using within the childcare facilities and work together alongside licensees and educators to deliver and provide high-quality care to children. Without Licensing Officers, we would not be able to live up to our standard for high quality childcare in British Columbia. The relationship between Licensing Officers and child care providers should be seen as a partnership where rich collaboration and listening are encouraged. By working closely with licensing officers they are able to understand what is expected of them and how they can continue to make sure that they are always meeting all of the requirements. Licensing officers are available to discuss issues, make site visits and help licensees understand what needs to be done and why. (Government of British Columbia, 2008, p.2). Burrow (2021) discussed how there are misinterpretations about Licensing Officers, where they are seen as strict and rigid. This is not the case, as Licensing Officers want to work with both educators and licensees, and are therefore open-minded to the different solutions they could create to reach a mutual and cohesive agreement together. Questions ● Is it important for Licensing Officers to collaborate with children as well? ● What would happen if both parties cannot reach an agreement? What is the protocol? References:
