FdRel 250 Lesson 02 Weekly Reading & Writing Template Submit by Due Date #1 Name: Taylor Woolstenhulme Date: 9/18/2017 1. What is Heavenly Father’s plan for His children? Read the following scriptures in order to better understand Father’s plan and His ultimate goal: Moses 1:39; Doctrine & Covenants 14:7. Describe in 2-3 sentences the ultimate goal of Father in Heaven? The end goal of our Father in Heaven so that we will have the opportunity of eternal life. Our Father in Heaven wants us to dwell with Him for eternity, and the only way to achieve this goal is to live this life on earth.

2. Using the scriptures studied (Doctrine & Covenants 76:50-70, 91-95; 131:1-4; 132:19-25; 2 Nephi 31:14-21; 3 Nephi 27:1-21; Encyclopedia of Mormonism, “Premortal Life”) what are the means (requirements) and ways Father’s plan brings about His ultimate goal and purposes in the lives for His children? Provide three specific answers with scriptural support that emphasize important elements of Father’s plan that help bring about His ultimate goal in His children’s lives. Teaching #1: Keeping the Commandments. As stated in the scripture below, that through keeping the commandments we can be washed clean of our sins, and therefore we can reside in the presence of our Heavenly Father. Scripture: Doctrine and Covenants 76 52 "That by keeping the commandments they might be washed and cleansed from all their sins, and receive the Holy Spirit by the laying on of the hands of him who is ordained and sealed unto this power;" 53 "And who overcome by faith, and are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, which the Father sheds forth upon all those who are just and true" 62 "These shall dwell in the presence of God and his Christ forever and ever." Teaching #2: I like this scripture because I think that it touches on multiple aspects of how to receive eternal life. You have to have faith in Christ, that is essential. Have Christ as your center, and learn from His example in how he treated people. Scripture: 2 Nephi 31:20 "Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press

forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life." Teaching #3: Christ suffered for our sins, he made it possible that we can have a chance to be forgiven for our sins. We need to take advantage of his sacrifice by being Baptized and repenting because that is how we become clean in the sight of God. Scripture: 3 Nephi 27:14 "And my Father sent me that I might be lifted up upon the cross; and after that I had been lifted up upon the cross, that I might draw all men unto me, that as I have been lifted up by men even so should men be lifted up by the Father, to stand before me, to be judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil—" 15 "And for this cause have I been lifted up; therefore, according to the power of the Father I will draw all men unto me, that they may be judged according to their works." 16 "And it shall come to pass, that whoso repenteth and is baptized in my name shall be filled; and if he endureth to the end, behold, him will I hold guiltless before my Father at that day when I shall stand to judge the world." 3. Write 2-3 sentences describing how gospel ordinances and covenants help you receive the “power of godliness” and fulfill God’s ultimate purpose to become like Him? Read D&C 84:20. I believe that we have ordinances and covenants for many different reasons, but the one that is the most applicable in my life is that they keep me on the straight and narrow path. If nothing else, they help me do the things that my Heavenly Father wants be to be doing. They are the things that we help me return to Him with honor. We refer to them as God-like attributes, and when as we practice them here on earth, we will be able to exemplify them in the afterlife. 4. As you read the following passages (Alma 13:1-16; Revelation 5, 12:8-11; Abraham 3, Moses 4:1-4; DC 29:36-38; 76:22-27) on pre-mortality and the pre-mortal Jehovah, find four  specific answers about this question: What do we learn about Jehovah (Jesus Christ) in premortal life? Reference, quote, and explain your learning concerning the Savior, Jesus Christ, premortal experience and existence. Principle #1: Strength Reference & Quotation: Revelation 12:10 "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night." Explanation:  This scripture was following Satan being cast out by God. I think that this scripture really shows that Christ was a strong and powerful. Principle #2: He rules over all.

Reference & Quotation: Abraham 3:21 "I dwell in the midst of them all; I now, therefore, have come down unto thee to declare unto thee the works which my hands have made, wherein my wisdom excelleth them all, for I rule in the heavens above, and in the earth beneath, in all wisdom and prudence, over all the intelligences thine eyes have seen from the beginning; I came down in the beginning in the midst of all the intelligences thou hast seen." Explanation:  Christ is our connection to what is right and what is wrong. He is so much smarter because He has seen so much more and He has created all that is. It is a kind of intelligence that we cannot fully comprehend. Principle #3: His words can never expire. Reference & Quotation: Moses 4:30  "For as I, the Lord God, liveth, even so my words cannot return void, for as they go forth out of my mouth they must be fulfilled." Explanation:  There will never be a time when we should not follow the guidance of Christ. He has everlasting life, and so do his messages. Principle #4: The creator lives. Reference & Quotation: Doctrine and Covenants 76:22 "And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives! 23 For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father— 24 That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God." Explanation:  Christ is the creator of the world and us. He is the Only Begotten of the Father, and He is still with us. He lives and we will see him again. Why is an understanding of the truth of Jesus Christ’s premortal experience significant? Christ's premortal experience is essential to the understanding of our Him in any sense. If we don't know how our Heavenly Father came about, and the role that He played in our being here on this earth, it would be nearly impossible to understand the role that He will play in our future.

5. What two questions do you have or can you identify that would further your learning on your study this week? Question #1 I would like to ponder the question of how else did Christ affect my premortal existence? Question #2: W  hat should I say when people ask me what the ultimate

goal of our Father in Heaven for putting us on the earth?
