English 1118-71 (online) Summer 2015 Study Guide for Final Exam1 There will be six sections, each taken individually2 via the D2L “Quizzes” function:  2 Multiple Choice Sections: (10 minutes each) o Part 1: Literary Terminology (Fiction)  You will have 10 minutes to answer 11 items.  Though I can’t make this exam closed-book, the short amount of time given should encourage you to study before you begin this section. o Part 2: Literary Terminology (Poetry)  You will have 10 minutes to answer 11 items.  Though I can’t make this exam closed-book, the short amount of time given should encourage you to study before you begin this section.  2 Short Answer Sections: Quotations from stories (40 minutes each) o Part 3: Quotation from short stories  Identify and story and author.  Explain the importance of the quotation to the rest of the story.  Go into some depth: 4 to 6 well developed sentences.  You will have choices (you will complete 3 out of 7).  As with the multiple choice section, though I can’t make this exam closed-book, the short amount of time given should encourage you to study before you begin this section. o Part 4: Quotations from Othello  Identify the character.  Explain the importance of the quotation to the rest of the play.  Go into some depth: 4 to 6 well developed sentences.  You will have choices (you will complete 3 out of 6). 

2 Short Essay Sections: 2 Questions (60 minutes (plus a 10 minute grade period) each ) o Part 5: Questions about short stories  You will choose which question to answer and write a 300 – 500 word response. o Part 6: Questions about drama  You will choose which question to answer and write a 300 – 500 word response.
