After reviewing Zinn’s and Schweikart’s personal assumptions, beliefs, and values as well as excerpts from their historical writing, respond to the following questions: 1)What do you believe to be the major distinctions in their personal assumptions, beliefs, and values? There are substantial differences between Zinn’s and Schweikart’s personal assumptions, beliefs and values. Howard Zinn looked at himself as a socialist who believes the government and the police are bias and not for the people. He believed that all people, including minorities, should have a voice. Schweikart, on the other hand, is an old-fashioned person who see free trade and limited government involvement is fundamental to a strong and successful US economy.

2) What do you believe to be the major distinctions in their interpretations of history? A major distinction in how they interpret history is Zinn appears to be more open minded. In Zinn’s paragraph, he seems to be really speaking from his experiences and believes that the world could be better. Larry Schweikart seems to be speaking on more of a personal feeling about what he feels and believes.

3) Do you notice any biases? If so, what are they? I believe the bias is that Zinn does not try to hide the fact that he is telling the history of the United States from the point of view of the common person, which is why he calls it a people's history. He believes that most average American histories are told from the point of view of the wealthy and powerful. He thinks those histories are themselves biased and because of that, they have softened the struggles and sufferings of black people, Native Americans, women, immigrants, and the poor in order to present a successful chronicle of the American progress and success....
