Explain the characteristics of a safe and effective care environment. How do you practice quality, safe, and relationship-centered care as guided by practical nurse scope of practice?

Two characteristics of a safe and effective environment are communication and knowledge. Without good communications, things can go wrong. A patient could become neglected, or things may not get done effectively. If a nurse goes into another nurse's room to answer a call light but does not let the patient's nurse know what was needed, it could cause the patient's needs not to be met or take longer to be met. Where if the nurse who answered the light relays the message, the patient's nurse can add what the patient needs to her list of things needing to be done. An example that can go with knowledge is if a nurse is unsure how to do a procedure. The nurse may be unsure of how to do the procedure because they have not done it in a while or may not know how to do it. Without knowing how to do the procedure or asking for help, the patient could get hurt. Without knowledge, a nurse can become less effective at their job. Without these two characteristics, a safe and effective care environment can become harder to achieve. One example of how to practice quality, safe, and relationship-centered care is to check the MAR. Also, make sure to follow the rights of medication administration when passing medication. Another example would be to make sure not to break HIPPA laws, which can be a serious thing. The last example would be to engage with patients when interacting with them instead of just going in and out of rooms. This can help them feel more comfortable and feel more at ease....
