Lauren D. Fisher: Four Lenses OL-635 5-2 Consultants Journal

Structural Lens This would have to be my favorite lens. The Structural lens is about the “how” of change (Martin, 2020). As a Change Management Consultant, this Lens is good for business transformations and implementations. I put this lens into play on projects by strategizing every phase of the project and align them with my required deliverables. For example, during the blueprinting phase, I would work on the change impact analysis and the stakeholder assessment. During the design phase, I would carve out the training curriculum. After that, I will create a training plan and assign training tasks to my developers and align it with the functional plans of the project. I’m big on tasks and deliverables and this Lens delivers that. This lens requires constant communication with the organization, keeping them up to date on all phases of the project. Human Resource Lens This lens is “employee-centric”. I see this in a lot of Human Resource Transformation Projects. One of my clients I am working with now, is revamping their whole Human Resources Workstream. I created an Employee Roadmap that shows employees from applying to a job to getting to the job, to retiring. I also completed personas to go with this and mapped employees to a certain persona (i.e. Staff Employee, Senior, Manager, Director). The action here is to interview the employees to gain an ideal on what they want to see different from their HR Offerings (Benefits, sites, process, etc.). Political Lens This lens I’ve seen in organizations during Mergers and Acquisitions and organizations that need to revamp from the top down. They have problems that need to be resolved. This is where I would come in as a strategy consultant providing that outside support that an organization needs.

Give them recommendations to change their employee morale and satisfaction and serve as a mediator in certain situations. Symbolic Lens This Lens goes hand in hand with the Human Resources one to me. I feel this one can be a compliment after HR has a clear direction on where they want to go with the organization. I will implement to best employee focused solutions that satisfies the organization and their employees. One thing my organization is doing now is called “Thank You Thursday”. Each Thursday, a director personally calls 5 employees and thanks them for their contributions to the project. This makes employees feel appreciated and makes them assured that the organization cares for them.
