Lava Review Lava is a short, 6-minute, romance film that was created by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures in 2014, and was directed by James Ford Murphy. Lava is portrayed through song, unlike other Pixar shorts in this the two volcanoes sing, but they do not talk which is similar to many other Pixar shorts. A lonely volcano in the middle of the sea watches all of the happy animal couples around him and everyday he sings a song of hope that he will meet the love of his life. Thousands of years pass and he begins to run out of lava to sing his song, and the water begins to cover him up. As he sings his song for the last time, a lady volcano erupts out of the water, she looks everywhere for him but is unable to find him. As his tears fill the sea and he becomes completely submerged under the sea, he hears the other volcano sing his song of hope, and he suddenly erupts out of the water next to her. The two are combined as one because when he erupted out of the water the two volcanos combined into one island. They sing a new song as they hold each other forever. "I have a dream I hope it will come true" She: "That you'll grow old with me" He: "And I'll grow old with you" Both: "We thank the earth, sea and the sky we thank too I lava you. I lava you. I lava you." The main purpose of this film, according to director James Murphy, was to propose the question "What if volcanoes spend their entire life searching for love?" just like humans do. Although Lava is only 6 minutes long and the main target audience is children, Lava is worth seeing because it is a perfect demonstration of true love, proving that people can go through life being happy but can be happiest with the person that makes them the happiest. Audiences young and old can enjoy this film and understand the theme of going through life looking for love and they can find love at any time in life with anyone. People, and maybe even volcanoes, go through

their entire life searching for love, and they can find their love in anyplace and at any time throughout their lives. Personification is used heavily throughout the film, Lava, and used extremely effectively to portray that love comes in all forms. The two-main characters, Uke and Lele, are volcanoes that can talk, sing, and even love which are characteristics that only humans are capable of doing. Uke, the male volcano sings his song of hope every day, which Lele hears under water, she believes that she is his love and vice versa. Lele gets excited and wants to meet him so her love for him allows her lava to activate and explode allowing her to finally rise out of the sea. So, the film does a good job of taking how volcanoes work that over millions of years they can fall into the sea if they do not have lava left, and they can reactivate and grow out of the sea; and then uses personification to give the mountains human characteristics to allow the viewer to connect with Uke and Lele and connect their own love story to this short film. People should be interested in watching Lava because it is a great film representation of a beautiful love story. The film is able to capture a major key to a person's happiness, love, finding the love of their life. The film shows that anybody can find their love and their love could be anyone and show up in their life at any time, even at the end of their life. People should be interested in this film because it is cute and has a great message and is only 6 minutes long. Therefore, although Lava is only 6 minutes long and the main target audience is children, Lava is worth seeing because it is a perfect demonstration of true love, proving that people can go through life being happy but can be happiest with the person that makes them the happiest. Audiences young and old can enjoy this film and understand the theme of going through life looking for love and they can find love at any time in life with anyone. People, and maybe even
