2 Leadership Evaluation Every individual has an unique leadership style. In order to effectively determine my leadership style, I took the “What’s Your Leadership Style” quiz conducted by MindTools. The quiz determined that I generally lead with a democratic and participative style. There are several strengths and weaknesses to utilizing this leadership style. One primary strength of the democratic leadership approach is the inclusiveness of the team members. The quiz stated, “This style can build trust between you and your people, as they'll likely feel engaged and valued” (Mind Tools Content Team, 2019, para. 4). By building trust with the other team members, I will have an effective team that feels included. One core weakness to this leadership style is not knowing how to handle conflict within the team. When approached with different points of views, I find it challenging to know how to defuse the situation and keep the team moving forward. This is a common challenge for democratic leaders as they wish to keep peace with the entire group. The quiz also states, “Your goal is to build a culture in which people can have healthy debates with one another” (Mind Tools Content Team, 2019, para. 8). It is necessary to build a team that can debate and collaborate effectively. Throughout this course, I intend to expand and develop my leadership skills by learning how to properly deal with conflict and increase my conflict resolution skills. I also hope to learn tools from each leadership style that would assist my day to day leadership role within my current organization.
