PROJECT SUMMARY In 2015, a road-widening was started in Zambales. It was a project of the government
with the aim to provide the people a better traffic and safer road. But on the other side, it has a negative impact for the people of Zambales, especially to those barangays whose roads were widened first. Just like in Barangay Sta. Rita, a barangay located in the municipality of Cabangan. For the reason that included in the road-widening was the removal of most of the barangay’s waiting sheds and other people’s properties, the barangay people are only left with one functional waiting shed. Families whose houses were affected by the road-widening recovered easily from the changes in their homes, and instantly found solutions to repair their properties that were damaged. However, the waiting sheds that were destroyed, were not replaced until now since the day it was removed. As a result, the citizens of every barangays affected, just like in Barangay Sta. Rita, are experiencing difficulties in commuting. In this project, the building of waiting sheds in the selected areas of Barangay Sta. Rita are being proposed. With its goal of raising awareness in providing safety needs for the Barangay Sta. Rita people, as they wait for public transportation like buses, jeepneys, tricycles, and express vehicles. Another, under this project proposal is its objectives states that by the end of this year, the proposed waiting sheds will be accomplished and be ready for the usage of its target recipients, which are the residents and non-residents of Barangay Sta. Rita.

COMMUNITY BACKGROUND Sta. Rita is a barangay located in the municipality of Cabangan, province of Zambales. This barangay shares its common borders with Barangay San Rafael, Barangay Apo-apo, Barangay San Antonio and Barangay Dolores that all can be found beside the national highway. With its wide area, it was divided by parts that results for it to have five districts/zones. This is the reason why people there are classified according to their location that is divided by what they call “Puroks”. The Purok 1 in the inner part of the barangay, Purok 2, 3, and 4 that can be seen beside the main roads, and the Purok 4 that is near the mountains. As a result, the total of the population of the barangay, when citizens from those five divisions are added is equal to 2,198 in number. Aside from having a lot of citizen than the other near barangays, Barangay Sta. Rita also has a lot of establishments in its area and can also be considered as one of the busiest Barangay in its town. People can find different kind of small eateries, basketball courts, multi-purpose halls, and other small businesses within its zone. In addition, public elementary and high schools are also located here, that’s the reason why there are always many people found in the streets every lunch time and afternoon, especially before the pandemic.

STATEMENT OF NEED In 2015, a road-widening was started in Zambales. It was a project of the government with the aim to provide the people a better traffic and safer road. It is also for the tourists so that they will have a good impression and easier travel to the province, as the tourism industry in Zambales continuously rising. But it has a negative impact for the people of Zambales, especially to those barangays whose roads were widened first, as well as the houses that lies on it. For the reason that included in the road-widening was the removal of some part of their houses, and the barangay’s waiting sheds, to give way for the government’s project. Families whose houses were affected by the road-widening recovered easily from the changes in their homes, and instantly found solutions to repair their properties that were damaged. However, the waiting sheds that were destroyed, was not replaced until now since the day it was removed. As a result, the citizens of every barangays affected, just like in Barangay Sta. Rita, are experiencing difficulties in commuting. Others may not notice it, but the barangay having only one functional waiting shed makes it hard for its people, especially to those who doesn’t have private vehicles, and just depends on public transportation on their daily commute. This is the reason why it is really important to build a new set of waiting sheds in the area because of the fact that the waiting sheds, the small structures usually built alongside roads, serves as people’s waiting area as they wait for their rides. Also, it also provides shelter for the commuters against the hotness of the sun or from the rain when there’s a typhoon. In addition, having not enough available waiting sheds in the Barangay Sta. Rita, or even in another places, can be a hassle to people. They still have to look for alternative places where they can wait or find a shelter. Another, it can also be dangerous

for them especially when their alternatives are not safe and are prone to accidents. Due to this, it is really necessary to provide the people of Barangay Sta. Rita, as well as the nonresidents, the waiting sheds in different parts of the barangay. Even just the simpler ones, like the Sample Waiting Shed that I put in the Annex. It may not be as exceptional like others, but what important is, it can provide the real purpose of a waiting shed, which is to provide safety and shelter for people.

IV.
GOAL To raise awareness in providing safety needs for the residents and non-residents of
Barangay Sta. Rita, as they wait for public transportation like buses, jeepneys, tricycles, and express vehicles.
V.
OBJECTIVES At the end of the three – month preparation and construction of the waiting sheds, within the month of November and December, and as the year ends, the team will be able to provide the residents or non-residents of Barangay Sta. Rita enough waiting sheds where they can safely wait for public transportation.
VI.
TARGET RECIPIENTS The building of waiting sheds in the Barangay Sta. Rita will be beneficial to the barangay people. Waiting shed that will be built in selected areas of Barangay Sta. Rita will serve as the people’s safety and shelter provider as they wait for public vehicles. Whether they are just waiting for a tricycle so they can go in another barangay, a jeep to have a ride going to the other town, or a bus for a long-travel journey. Aside from them, it will also be useful for people who visits the barangay and for those who work in that area.
