Lesson plan...
Morgan Sauder EDU 292 Paper Plate Mandala Fibers Lesson: Mandalas are a series of straight lines that work together to create a circle. They have often been used in history for meditation. When creating this, make sure you keep the string loose so that your paper plate does not fold in. Procedure: Start with your paper plate, and cut a triangle notch around the plate, about ½ inch apart. Use the lines around the plate for help! Grab a ball of yarn and tape the end to the back of the plate. Now the yarn through a notch, off to the side a little bit. Not going down the middle, has to be off to the side a little bit. Then on the front, go around one notch to the right. Then cross over the one you just did to form an X. Then go around the back of the next notch and form an X over the one you just did. Repeat this pattern for the rest of the plate. You are finished when the entire plate is full! Do not change the pattern you are doing. When you get to the end, trim your string and tape it to the back. Materials: Paper plate Yarn tape Evaluation: Did you write your name on the back of the plate? Were you able to cut notches around the plate? Were you able to thread the yarn around the plate?
Did you clean up after yourself?
I did not have a paper plate or yarn. So, I tried it with a coffee cup and an old shoelace. The notches broke off a few times and it did not turn out well. I think I had the string too tight....
