Part Two: Short-Response Questions 

Identify a theorist, summarize their theory, and explain the aspects of that theory that relate to one of the three perspectives: biological, psychological, or social. Support your answer with a credible source. I chose Mary Ainsworth and her theory of attachment. Mary believed that infants 9 months to 18 months had three types of attachments to their mothers. The first being secure, the second insecure avoidant and last insecure ambivalent/resistant. These came from the idea of early attachment to the moms and not the caregivers. I think this comes from the biological aspect, throughout the years it has been proven the infants and moms share a special bond. Think about it moms carry the child in her womb and delivers the babies, so the bonding is unique. So, because of this bond an infant will know the moms voice, smell, and later down the line the facial features of the mom. In some cases, it doesn’t happen all the time and doesn’t happen right away, due to the nature of different situations.

Select one theorist and explain how their theory applies to your own learning development and lived experience. I chose Erik Erickson’s because of the way he describes personality development. Erickson gives us 8 stages of psychosocial development from infancy to adulthood. During each stage, a person experiences a psychological crisis which could be positive or negative. In my case I lost my grandma at 11, it affected me in a bad way because I acted out in a negative way. Another experience is now at 32 I lost my uncle in December 2020. Even though his death impacted me negatively, I turned it into a positive experience because I remembered the good times we had together. My uncle was my backbone and got me through so many experiences that I know it will never be another like him. I lost the two most important people in my life at different stages.
