Angela Weber Dr. Nina Tedeschi Rel100.55 14 March 2021 Similarities Between Sikh God and Jews, Christians, & Muslims Sikhism is similar theologically to the monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. God is one, eternal, self-existent, and “Creator.” Gurus term used for God is Akal Purakh, “the one beyond time.” They also use Nirankar, “without form.” For the Sikhs God is without form and beyond all attributes that humans use to describe reality. This too is similar to God in Christianity. Sikhs believe that humans tend to neglect the need to center their lives on God. Humans fall to powers of the mind these include lust, anger, greed, attachment, and pride. This is similar to what Christian believe as sins of the world. They too believe that humans should live God centered lives to live in peace. This is known as spiritual liberation. When living a God center life in Christianity or Sikhism it is the divine will and communicates truth. This is known as God’s grace. Christianity and Sikhism also share the focus on inward meditation (prayer) and not on outward forms of worship, such as festivals....
