2 Restaurant Managers: The Hiring Process and Job Description for Red Lobster Introduction Human resource is important for a business thriving. Choosing the right person for a specific job is critical for managers. It is a process of establishing the right benchmark and process of hiring and recruitment. In this process, job design is a basic guideline for the candidate and recruiter to follow. It is job content that is used for the hiring methods and optimizing resources for the HR department (Armstrong, n.d. cited in Human Resource Management, n.d.). The process must stick with a business context that fits current and longterm business requirements. Business context Reb Lobster is a popular seafood restaurant chain in the US and Canada. They have more than 670 dining restaurants and 63,000 people (Phillips and Gully, 2009). Based on their new vision, mission, and goals, they have introduced a new business strategy that demonstrates their value and image based on (1) simplified menu, (2) highest-quality seafood at mid-range prices, (3) tropical themes and clear look, and (4) Northeastern coastal imagery ((Phillips and Gully, 2009). Red Lobster aims to execute their strategies based on the highest class of hospitality and differentiation. The working culture focus on fun and enthusiasm. The top managers believe that the job description and design must be changed to attract the best-fit people for their restaurant managers. They require people who can reflect the company’s vision, mission, and goals as well as their strategies and value. Process of building an effective job description A job description is important because it describes the duties, responsibilities, qualities, contributions, and values that the candidates must follow to fit with the human resource requirements (Community Foundation of Canada, 2018). It is the fundamental tool for the human resource department to recruit, select, orient, train, supervise, compensate,

It must be an easyto-read document that illustrates the minimum skills and qualifications to sort the best-fit candidate pool (Recruiting.com, 2019). The job description is briefly developed throughout the process of seven phrases 1) value identification, (2) tasks and functions construction, (3) grouping tasks and functions into jobs, (4) minimum requirements for experience, qualification and characteristics, (5) other special conditions, (6) identification of internal and external implications, (7) job description publication and updates (Community Foundation of Canada, 2018). We are an exciting seafood restaurant that has a large chain of over 670 restaurants and 63,000 staff in the US and Canada. With customer-centricity, we focus on the dining experience to the highest level. Our vision, mission, and goals for the company are around the highest quality of our foods, dining environment, and employees. If you are an experienced restaurant manager and want to join an exciting and winning team, we are the right fit for you. Let’s apply today! (3) Duties and tasks. You are the person in charge of a restaurant’s performance of customers’ experience, returns, employees’ satisfactions, and other appraisal criteria. The duties and tasks are briefly described but not limited to the following. 

Hiring, training, and managing restaurant’s staffs



Creating and managing staff routine and workload



Ensuring the restaurant budgets and resource efficiency



Payroll and record maintaining



Ensuring working standards and safety

Reporting performance of finance, inventory, customers, and personnel to the direct managers



Handling and controlling customers’ needs, complaints, and feedbacks



Building the company’s good image that reflects current strategies

(4) Decision-making requirements. You must demonstrate the highest level of task accomplishments with the reflection of business strategies. Every day, you are dealing with the decision-making requirements to fulfil the needs of customers, maintain company culture, and inspire staff. (5) Relationship and roles 

Internal aspects. You will report directly to the regional manager and be responsible for managing subordinates for daily activities.



External aspects. You need to manage and control the relationships with customers, business partners, suppliers.

(6) Qualification and experience requirements 

Bachelor’s degree in hospitality is preferred



Minimum 3 years of experience in the food and beverage industry



Having relevant license and certificate for food and alcohol serving.



Excellent in communication and interpersonal skills



Extreme requirements of leadership skills, organized and detail-oriented personalities



Fun and enthusiastic characteristics



Demonstrating excellence in customer and goal-oriented
