Description

I found a great majority of the events on the timeline interesting, but I decided to focus on 1951 and 1960 as they both focus on mental health on different levels. In 1951 the first drug to treat depression was released. I found this interesting because before this many people would be called a lunatic. People did not understand that depression was just a chemical imbalance in the body that could be treated with medication. This leads me into the next year I found interesting which is 1960. In 1960 the FDA approved Librium for treatment of non-psychotic anxiety. This is interesting due to how before many did not believe in mental illnesses and over the years the medical field has developed medicine to help treat people. Watching my sister deal with anxiety has really opened my eyes to how much it affects people's lives. With medication, they can do daily tasks that are normal for me but cause her to become anxious. Watching the video on Neuroscience really shows how biology plays a big part in the way people function. If we did not study the biology of people then we can never truly know why they act and think the way they do. References: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mk9w9Z8ybAs...
