Description

Self-Directed Job Search ➢

Develop a job search strategy using many resources and activities (SCDC online is one resource; it is not a strategy)

Everyone’s strategy should include an A quality resume that you will continue to update with your recent and relevant information.

Create a list of potential employers to apply to. (See below for ways to generate this list)

Resume AND Cover Letter will be required for EVERY job application.

Consider using several of these resources : 1) ES&P archive (mostly local jobs) The archive provides a list of employers for your major. If you find an employer that interests you, you can 1) look for a posting of the job in the A, B or C rounds or 2) reach out to the employer directly with your resume and cover letter.

2) Drexel Career Library website The databases can identify employers for local, national and international jobs If you need additional assistance with these resources, stop by the Hagerty Library and meet with a librarian. Access job search databases : Mergent Intellect and Hoovers Videos here show you how to use them : http://libguides.library.drexel.edu/careersearch Major-specific Career Guides: Career planning information:

3) Google (for local, national and international jobs) “Careers in ……” 4) Networking (for local, national and international jobs) Networking provides information and hopefully leads to job postings. Networking can be done by email, phone or social media. Face to face connections often make a lasting and positive impression. How many of these people/resources have you used to network? ▪ Professors ▪ Family ▪ Friends (especially ones who have completed a co-op) ▪ Former employers ▪ Professional organizations (see Career Guides for suggestions in your major) ▪ LinkedIn.com (create your professional online profile and use it to connect.) ▪ Campus events (employer visits, speakers, career fairs- see SCDC website) ▪ Campus involvement (meet people thru a club, organization, team, etc.)

5) Online job websites: Search by “intern” or “co-op” (for local, national and international jobs) ▪ Glassdoor ▪ Vault ▪ Indeed ▪ Simplyhired ▪ Monster ▪ Career Builder ▪ USAJobs (government jobs) ▪ GoingGlobal (see below)

Additional Information: 1) Attend a SCDC workshop/event (See SCDC website for topics, days, times and locations) 2) Talk to your Co-op Adviser about industry specific information and additional job search resources. 3) Subscribe to The Muse [email protected] Great career tips/ industry information/job postings 4) Consider an international co-op Read more at http://www.drexel.edu/SCDC/internationalcoop GoingGlobal is the leading provider of country-specific and American city-specific career and employment information.
