Retrieving messages sent to you individually In order to view messages that were sent to you individually, please proceed as follows. Step 1: When you log in to your Moodle course, if you have a new message, there will be a grey pop up box on the bottom, right corner of your screen. Click Go to messages to read the message. Click Ignore if you do not want to read the message.

Step 2: The name of the individual(s) that sent you a message will appear in a list under Incoming contacts. Click on the name of the individual in order to read their message and reply.

Step 3: Once you click on their name, you can see their message. You can also choose to add them as a contact by clicking on Add contact (1), underneath their name. It is recommended that you add people as contacts that you communicate with often as this will make it easier to see your message history with them. If there was a previous thread, click All messages or Recent messages (2) to see the whole conversation. Type your reply into the Message box (3) and click Send message (4).

Step 4: To delete a private message, place your cursor over the message. It will become highlighted and an X will appear in the top, right corner. Click on the X to delete the message.

Step 5: If in the future, you would like to review an exchange of old messages, or if you did not see the grey pop up window, you can view your messages by clicking on Messages in the messages block.

Step 6: You can now look for old messages. Individuals that you have chosen to be a contact will appear automatically under contacts. Click on the name to see your old messages.

Step 7: If you want to locate message history with someone who is not a contact, you have two options. The first option is to use the Message navigation drop-down to view Recent conversations. Recent conversation will bring up all your recent message exchanges, where you can then locate the one you are looking for.
