Spiritual Plan GCU is committed to integrating faith across all aspects of the GCU community, which stems from GCU’s mission to educate students from a Christian perspective and to prepare them for careers that honor God while serving others. Read through GCU’s “One Foundation” and watch the three videos of President Brian Mueller and Dean Jason Hiles, “Integration of Faith, Learning, and Work,” “Ethical Positions Statement,” and “Doctrinal Statement Introduction,” located at http://www.gcu.edu/about-gcu/christian-identity-andheritage.php

What did you takeaway from these videos? How can you apply this to your experience while at GCU? (50-100 words)

What does service outside of the classroom mean to you? How can you apply service while at GCU? (50-100 words)

Grand Canyon is a Christian school with a strong multicultural Christian community. GCU stands strong building a university on the strong Christian faith which the faculty believes in. GCU started out as a Baptist private school and they later grew weak and strayed away from their norm then they came up with the doctrinal statement which sets them back on track. A doctrinal statement is a non-negotiable core value on which the school swears to stand by and will no compromise to accommodate anyone who can't live by it. GCU also has a strong ethical position statement that outlines the strong beliefs of moral truth, creation, human life, salvation, and others. The goal of the faculty is to provide clarity, unity, and alignment across the university on matters of ethics and moral principles. Service outside of the classroom is basically students giving of themselves freely. Students can become student leaders pointing people to the Christ or they can join a support group giving spiritual and moral support to hailing students’ will volunteer my time to any outreach mission that GCU has during my time here. It is good to help less fortunate people; at times we have something, and we think it’s the worst but some out there has nothing and this your worst is the best they have ever seen. GCU offers weekly student-led small groups called Life Groups. A Life Group offers a place for you to form relationships, build community and grow spiritually through studying the Bible. This is another way I can give back to my school community.

Career Plan Grand Canyon University offers several career service tools to help you discover potential career paths, build a resume, search for employment, and more. Take a few minutes to take the Career Compass survey located at https://www.focus2career.com/Portal/Register.cfm?SID=810 (Access Code: Purpose). You can watch this video to assist you with the registration process: https://www.youtube.com/playlist? list=PLnvvHOt5LvE8yBMYeHV4mGPW88Q86ftmw . Even if you have completed an assessment such as this in the past, it is good to reassess yourself every so often to reevaluate your goals, focus, and direction based on your growth. After you complete the survey, fill in the following table: Based on your Career 1) Criminal Justice/Safety Studies – A program that focuses on the criminal justice system, its organizational Compass results, components and processes, and its legal and public policy contexts. Based on your results, what surprises did you find? If there are none, explain why. (100-150 words)

I think the evaluation really works because all my results point towards a career in security or a computer-based line of studies. In my earlier years, I had ventured into computer technology but didn’t finish college because of the expense that it entails. I later went joined the police force and I did that for 12 years then I resigned because I got tired of it and now, I am currently working in the medical field and studying for my bachelor in the medical-related field as well. After doing the purpose evaluation I am now wondering if I did the right thing switching over to the medical field when all my results are still pointing the area of security.

After completing your current program/degree, what is your plan? (grad school, internship, career plan, etc.)

I have 48 credits remaining to complete my bachelor. After completing my program I will use this degree to get a promotion in my current job then go back to school and get a bachelor's in nursing. That’s the plan for now....
