NUGGETS VIDEO Nuggets’s video shows and perfectly describes the cruel and sad reality of drugs. At the beginning, we don’t really know what drugs are and most people try them without really knowing its future consequences. What’s more, at the beginning, he decides to ignore it and doesn’t try it but it is the second time he sees the nugget when he finally “eats” it. This could be a metaphor of how the environment or our surrounding are what makes us to take drugs instead of preventing us from them.! As it can be seen in the video, when he trys the “nuggets” for the first time it seems an incredible experience and all he can experience are the amazing effects of drugs. Moreover, the disappearance of the effect is gradual and slow. However, the second time he takes the nugget, when the effect is over, he falls to the ground and feels the pain of the post-effect. The more he takes drugs, the less he feels the effect and the more he desires to feel the same effect as the first time. ! The first time he took the drug he could only feel a positive emotion and, consequently, the response was also positive. However, as he continues taking drugs in a prelonged time the kiwi’s physical appearance is sadder, darker and older. Moreover, the environment also gets darker and all the beautiful noises such as the birds chirping gradually stop. At the end, all that matters in kiwi’s life is drugs, which get brighter as the surrounding gets darker. ! As it has been explained, the primary emotion is positive and because of that, the kiwi continues taking the drug. However, the post-effect has a totally opposite effect as it is negative. Our body tries to activate different chemicals to confront the drug and works in order to maintain a balance, known as homeostasis. As a result of the mixture of the primary emotion and post effect, the resulting emotion is both positive and negative. However, as the positive reaction was the primary emotion and it appeared first, the kiwi desires to achieve that positive emotion and effect again and it results in an addiction. Nevertheless, that first effect is unrepeatable as he starts to gain tolerance, which means that he needs a bigger dose to obtain the same effect. Unfortunately, his body is not prepared for it.! The video doesn’t show only the effect of drugs, instead, it describes how addiction works. It describes how amazing the first taste is and how gradually the world becomes darker, more boring and what only keeps kiwi happy is the “nugget”. Besides, this could explain not only drugs, but any type of substance that creates addiction. In this case, the kiwi doesn’t ill because of an overdose by context, but because its body probably couldn’t maintain that balance and finally gave up....
