Coby Schmutter 2/2/20 Business Communications 004 1. According to Barry Schwartz moral will is the idea of doing the right thing in the right way for the right reasons. An example of this is caring for others regardless of whether it is in our “job description”. 2. The importance to serve as opposed to manipulate is to do the right thing because it is indeed the right moral thing to do, it is honorable and honest. There is no reward or incentive for “doing the right thing”, it is not a “performance” to impress, there is no reward or remuneration it is merely, an act done honestly and with integrity. 3. Character is important in education because it contributes to the teaching of good values, moral will, which includes; honesty and responsibility. Character allows us to acknowledge moral heroes, those who do the right thing and inspire others. Character teaches us honesty, to have hope and courage. 4. According to Barry Schwartz kids need to have respect for themselves, other students, teachers, and their school. 5. My moral hero is my mother, Karen. She always encourages me to do the right thing, not for a reward or justification but just because it is the right thing to do. While it might seem insignificant, my mother has not taken a day off from work in over two years, although she is entitled to take many. The last time she took off from her job was to bring my grandmother home from a rehabilitation center after surgery. My mother teaches preschool, the children are there 2 days or 3 days a week. She does not take days off because she knows how important it is for the children to have consistency and nurturing during their short time in school and how important it is to the parents to know that their children will be cared for....
