Summary

o This book was about a police officer named Officer Buckle and his K-9 dog Gloria. Officer Buckle and Gloria would go to schools and inform students about their safety tips. Officer Buckle became sad when he realized that the students were only paying attention to Gloria and not him. However, when Officer Buckle did not go with Gloria to the schools, the students were sad. The moral of the story is to always stick with your buddy.

Q/A

o This book is a good book choice for children because it uses appropriate language/grammar, and it clearly tells a story. The vocabulary is a bit strong for younger children to read on their own, but it is good for a read aloud. The author uses name repetition, as well as words such as “Never”. The illustrations enable the children to picture the story in their minds as well as guide their minds on what they should be envisioning. The young readers might be able to relate to

the students in the book, as well as Officer Buckle when he is feeling sad. Yes, the theme is relevant to children. The theme is relevant because in the middle of the book, Officer Buckle gets sad because he thinks that everyone is only paying attention to Gloria and not him. But, he comes to find out that the students missed him and did pay attention to him, too. The book demonstrated a life event that can be interpreted to the children. This event would be to stick by your friends’ side, as well as to not assume that you are not getting attention.
