Description

Ceremonial Speech for Nursing Graduation General purpose: Ceremonial speech (graduation) for accepting my nursing degree Specific purpose: To accept my degree for graduating from nursing school and thank the individuals who helped me along the way, acknowledge the trials we endured, and express the gratitude for the friendships with classmates that I made along the way. Central idea: Although I had no idea what I was getting myself into, nursing school has been the most challenging, yet rewarding, experience I have ever been through in my life! I have also been to bootcamp! This experience has enriched me in so many ways, from the mentorship of my professors, the lifelong friends I have made, and the experiences of never giving up, even when it gets extremely tough. Introduction I.

II. III.

“So never lose an opportunity of urging a practical beginning, however small, for it is wonderful how often in such matters, the mustard-seed germinates and roots itself.” This profound quote from the mother of nursing, Florence Nightingale, speaks to us. We have now graduated from student nurses to nurses! The sleepless nights, tears, stress, and excitement have all been endured for this moment. I could not have done it without the support of my fellow cohorts and some of my instructors, as well as my family. It has been difficult, but these people have continued to support me, no matter what.

Transition: I have been through a lot with my fellow classmates, and would like to thank them, as well as friends, family, and mentors, and share some stories and what I have learned throughout nursing school.

Body I.

I would like to thank the people in my life that have made it possible for me to make it through nursing school. Without them it would not have been possible. A. Family and friends B. Instructors C. Fellow classmates

Transition: Now that I have thanked you all for all of your support, I would like to reminisce for a minute on the stories I hold dear to my heart from some of the funny times and tough times!

II.

The stories of nursing school are probably the most memorable. The shared laughter and tears of the men and women in the class. It brought us all together, we were a team, trying to make it together to the finished line. A. The trials and tribulations of clinicals B. Test days C. The anguish of the care plan and sleepless nights

Transition: Because of those hard test days, the intense and exhausting clinicals, and the sleepless nights doing care plans, I have learned a lot about myself and my classmates, the really surprises me. We are tough! III.

Nursing school has taught me so much more than I could ever imagine. It has matured me in so many ways. I have pushed myself passed my limits to create even more of a capacity that I did not know I had!

Transition: Now that I have spoken about the endless nights of care plans, the difficult tests’, the clinicals, and thanking all who helped carry us through when we couldn’t do it alone, I would like to conclude with a quote.

Conclusion I.

This is an excerpt from a poem called Desiderata, written by Max Erhmann in 1927:…”speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story…enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. Let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons have high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.”

II.

We are going to do great things! All of the sleepless nights, stress, tears, and anxiety have paid off. We made it! Go, do great things!!!
