Finding Your Purpose Name: Dechelle Knox Course: CWV 101 Date: December 12, 2020 Instructor: David Farbishel Be sure you respond to all five prompts and complete the reference page in this document before submitting. Consider how what you have learned throughout the course will impact your future. Explain how to find your purpose by answering the following questions. Include citations and references from the topic study materials. 1. Summarize the concept of missio Dei (missional purpose). Your answer in 100-150 words: Missio Dei, which means "mission of God" or "sending of God," is rooted in an interpretation of the Trinity's fundamental essence that results in missionary action. God himself is a God of self-sending, a God of mission, who is not waiting for people to come to him or to rebuild the earth. God sent himself to the world through Jesus Christ to deliver his gospel, and Christ was empowered by the Holy Spirit to follow God’s mission of salvation and restoration of this world (Pasley, 2020). The concept of missio Dei is to encourage Christians to fulfill God’s mission of sending out his gospel and serving our fellow man. 2. Summarize Buechner's concept of finding your purpose and explain how this aligns with the way you live out your worldview (missional purpose). Your answer in 100-150 words: Buechner’s concept for finding your purpose is know what mission God is calling you too and you will know that if you find happiness and enjoyment in what you do while also making a contribution to the world. "The place where God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet" (Buechner, 1993, p. 119). First, think

about what brings you joy and how that can be of service to God, and then follow the necessary steps to live out that purpose. This aligns with the way that I live because I believe my purpose is help others to be able to process difficult times and my faith is the reason I enjoy helping others. 3. Reflect on your beliefs about origins (creational purpose) and describe how those beliefs contribute to your understanding of human purpose. Your answer in 100-150 words: For me what the Bible says about life is what I believe in. I’ve read other stories on creation and the purpose of life. Some of these stories are based on religion, science and even philosophy, but I believe in what my Bible tells me. That God created the heavens and the earth, the moon and stars, mankind and everything I know to exist today is because of God. Even with today’s new technology, and all the new inventions in because of God and the knowledge that he has given us. It is the continuing work of his creations and like everything else humans where meant to flourish, thrive and grow. 4. Describe how Jesus's statement of overarching purpose in the commandment to love God and love others as ourselves can be lived in and out of the workplace. Your answer in 100-150 words: The commandment to love God and love they neighbors is the greatest commandments. God wants us to love and treat each other the way we would love and treat ourselves. For Christians this is expected every day 24-hours a day. This can be done by being kind to your neighbors, if you see someone struggling with something try to help them out. It doesn’t have to be financially, it could be kind word or some good advice to help empower their spirits. This can be done at home, in your personal life, with your friends, and at your place of work. Being a service to your neighbors means each and every person because we are all children

of God. Humanity in general is designed to live in a harmonious marriage (Topic 7 Overview). 5. Describe how your future career can be an opportunity to help others flourish, to be purposeful, and to do no harm. Your answer in 100-150 words: My future career is to be a therapist or a counselor. Not sure which but in my career I’m going to help my community flourish by being a listening ear, and an experienced and educated advisor to their needs. I hope to gain as much knowledge about the world and human behavior so that I can help others process difficult times, help with mental issues and encourage them to love God, themselves and everyone. To give others the tools they will need to be a success at whatever they’re goal is and to give insight of God’s love as often as appropriate, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (ESV and Topic 7 Overview). This knowledge they can use to increase meaning and purpose in their lives. My hope is that they will live a better life and pass that knowledge around.
