Topic 8 Finding Your Purpose...

Description

Finding Your Purpose Name: Hollie Garza Course: CWV 101 Date: November 2, 2020 Instructor: Professor Hampton Be sure you respond to all five prompts and complete the reference page in this document before submitting. Consider how what you have learned throughout the course will impact your future. Explain how to find your purpose by answering the following questions. Include citations and references from the topic study materials. 1. Summarize the concept of missio Dei (missional purpose). Your answer in 100-150 words: The concept of mission Dei is about the mission of God. God is acting and not passive. God will not wait around but is actively helping the broken and actively healing the sick. When God sent himself to the earth as his son Jesus Christ, he was living out his mission, mission Dei, When God the Father and God the Son sent the Holy Spirit it birthed the church which then carried out God’s mission to help everyone not be broken and have a place to turn in need. Missio Dei is act of doing. God will not just sit by and watch but is always working His mission around the world and it just takes humanity to open their eyes and accept that it is God being active in our world. 2. Summarize Buechner's concept of finding your purpose and explain how this aligns with the way you live out your worldview (missional purpose). Your answer in 100-150 words: Buechner’s concept is that everyone should evaluate what they do to make sure it truly is God’s purpose. Buechner states that if you are happy in what you do but it does not help the world, then it is not God’s purpose. If you are not happy in what you do and it is helping the world, then it is also not God’s purpose. Basically, for something to be God’s purpose then you would be happy in what you do, and it will also be helping the world. God would never have someone be miserable in what they do but intends us all to be happy doing God’s work. I have doing many jobs in my 43 years of life. When I am teaching a group of students, I am filled with joy. I am completely full of happiness even when my world was falling apart. This is how I know my purpose is to be a teacher. 3. Reflect on your beliefs about origins (creational purpose) and describe how those beliefs contribute to your understanding of human purpose.

Your answer in 100-150 words: Just as God had a purpose for everything he created. He too also created humans with a purpose. We can get caught up in the everyday routine of life and forget that God’s plan might not always align with my own plan. We must be flexible and listen for God as He might nudge us onto the right path and the nudge might be very unexpected. It is so important to listen to God unlike what Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden. We must obey God and when we do, we are living accordingly to His plan and not our own. 4. Describe how Jesus's statement of overarching purpose in the commandment to love God and love others as ourselves can be lived in and out of the workplace. Your answer in 100-150 words: Showing God’s love can be difficult at times especially in the workplace. A few ways we can live out God’s purpose in the workplace is to greet each person with a welcoming smile, take time to listen to someone that needs to talk, start a service project to collect can goods for the hungry or blanket drive for the homeless, stock the break room with sodas and treats with a sign saying “You’ve worked hard and deserve a treat! Rest your worries and take a seat” To show God’s love out of the workplace is really doing the same things as it shouldn’t matter where you are or who you are around your attitude and attention to others should be the same. Listen, be present, give to those in need, and give tokens of love to anyone. 5. Describe how your future career can be an opportunity to help others flourish, to be purposeful, and to do no harm. Your answer in 100-150 words: My future career is teaching. I look forward in being a person my students can trust and come to if ever needed. I will always make myself available to anyone, student or coworker to a shoulder they can cry on as well as someone that truly cares. I will show Christ love to students with providing snacks, supplies, and show grace to let them know they are not just a number but a person. I will show students that they do not have to be perfect but show and give them techniques on how to improve. I will create a safe environment where every student will be accepted and try to teach kindness.
