The Wishful Flower

Starting from a seed, it was small Potential flowed through the compact capsule It dreamt of being a flower Blooming, full of life, and color. Soon it became a solid stem It still envied to be brighter Spending day after day wanting to thrive in the future. It started to bloom Hues of all showed in its petals It always dreamt of this Finally becoming a youthful flower. Growing old day by day Withered and dying, all it does is pray Looking back to the previous days filled will with pure joy Where the sun was bright And the mood was peaceful. Now tired and famished the flower stands lifeless But this is how it ends Where the flower has taken its final breath. The final thoughts and dreams no longer

Authors note:

Most of my inspiration for this poem came from family members who always talk about their pasts. The poem is originally describing how life is from the beginning to the end. At first, it was pretty boring, there was no true message behind it, and it was just stating how people grow up to die. But, when I finally had a strong idea for what I wanted to show it turned out to be a strong message. The meaning behind the poem is a unique one, stating that as we grow up we keep wishing to have things. This can be anything to materialistic things or have a successful career. We push ourselves sometimes too hard to the point where we disregard the basic necessities of life. As we grow to the middle stage of our lives, we are in our prime, we have accomplished our goals, and appreciate the work we have put into it. As we keep aging we become less, and less of life and start pondering about the past. We contemplate what we wished we’d done in the past, to set us up for the future. This is what the poem is trying to convey, that almost all the time we end up wishing and not focusing on the present and enjoying life as it is....
