1. Define Socialism. ● A form of social organization where common ownership is a key principle. This means that the all resources, production, distribution, and exchange are to be regulated and owned by the community as a whole.

2. Good points. ● Nobody can take personal control of resources ● Free access to goods and services ● Advocates production for use rather than profit = less waste

3. Bad points. ● No private property ● People won’t work harder than they need, lose the incentive to work

4. Would be better off under socialism? ● Yes. Nations that have adopted a form of Socialism have shown higher rates in longevity of life, a more educated population, and less homelessness within the country. ● Socialist countries provide for their population with a better standard of living than Capitalist countries. They do not put profit first and have many restrictions on the unfair treatment of workers by the companies in the country.

5. Can you identify elements of a socialism in the United States? ● Community health centers ● Welfare, unemployment compensation, medicare and medicaid. All of which that are a step in the right direction but not enough in the way of keeping their citizens’ well being.

6. Did the founding generation show any socialist tendencies? ● The socialist movement in early America never manifested into anything significant. The idea of socialism drew stigma because of its similarity to authoritarian and communist ideals....
