Description

Author Last Name, Author First Name. “Article Name.” Book Title, Magazine Name, or Website Name, Other Contributors, Version, Number, Publisher, Publication Day Mon Year, Location (URL). Access Day Mon Year. Evaluative Summary (5-7 sentences interpreting and assessing what is contained in the source. A evaluative summary is eve more fully developed than an informative summary and includes the writer’s personal assessment of the original document. Assessments might take the form of personal opinions, judgments, advice, suggestions, cautions, and/or warnings. An evaluative summary example of the previous examples used might look like this: “This rather poorly written and finally unreliable report discusses a series of flawed experiments conducted on industrial-strength coil springs at the TopTech Laboratories in Northton, Minnesota in January 2015. Three kinds of springs were tested – all manufactured by the Mathers Spring co. of Marietta, Ohio: serial numbers 423, 424, and 425. The springs were evaluated for flexibility, durability, and heat resistance to determine their relative suitability for several specific manufacturing applications at Northton Industries. In 15 tests, the notoriously unreliable Flexor Meter, #423 was rated the most flexible, followed by #425 and #424, respectively. In 15 tests using the equally outdated Duro Meter, #425 scored highest, followed by #423 and #425, respectively. In 15 tests using a state-of-the-art Thermal Chamber, #423 was found to be the most heat-resistant, followed by #424 and #425, respectively. Although #423 compiled the best overall performance rating, the report recommends #425 on the grounds that the specific applications in question require considerable durability and involve relatively few hightemperature operations. However, these conclusions are questionable at best. Top Tech Laboratories has since shut down after revelations of improper procedures. Two of the three sequences involved obsolete instruments, and #425 proved markedly inferior to #423 and #424 in the only test sequence that can be considered reliable.” Note how this kind of summary paints an opinionated stroke of the document in an analytical focus. Word choice is particularly important in this kind of summary as the specific words selected can convey your opinions positively or negatively very effectively.)...
