FAQs Assignments: 1. Are the assignments for this module compulsory? Yes, the assignments are compulsory. You should use the assignments to achieve the outcomes of the module and to prepare for the examination. You have to obtain a year mark of 40% in order to obtain examination admission. 2. Can I expect my assignments to be returned sooner if I submit them well before the due dates? The marking of an assignment starts on the due date indicated for the relevant assignment. Assignments are not marked or returned prior to the due dates. 3. Can I scan my assignment and submit it as a PDF file? At NQF level 8 it is expected that all assignments should be typed. If you are unable to type your assignment, you can scan your handwritten assignment and then submit it as a PDF file. Make sure that all the pages of your assignment are scanned and in the correct order. Do not submit protected PDF files as they will not be marked. 4. Can I send my assignments directly to the relevant lecturer by e-mail? Assignments should be submitted through myUnisa. No assignments sent directly to the lecturer will be marked. The best way is to submit your assignments in PDF. They will then be marked onscreen and returned to you electronically. 5. Do the marks obtained for assignments count towards the final mark? The assignment marks do count towards the final mark, as explained in the Introduction. You need to obtain a year mark of 40% in order to gain examination admission. Read the section on the calculation of the year mark and examination admission in Tutorial Letter 101. 6. How long will I have to wait before I can expect my assignment results? We aim to have assignments marked within three weeks after each due date. Visit myUnisa to check for your assignment marks. Please do not call the lecturers to make enquiries about your assignment before four weeks have elapsed after the due date. 7. My assignment is late because .... . Can I submit it at a later date? It is your responsibility to ensure that your assignments are submitted on myUnisa on or before the closing dates. Please do not call the lecturers to request an extension for the submission of an assignment. Assignments that are submitted after the due dates will receive a zero mark. 8. What mark did I obtain for my assignment(s)? Check on myUnisa to find out the mark you received for your assignment(s). 9. Where can I find the assignment due dates? The assignment due dates are indicated on the assignment questions, in the study programme and schedule and in Tutorial Letter 101. 10. Where do I find the assignment questions? The assignment questions are available under Additional Resources. There are three assignments for this module.

Contacting the lecturer: 1. How do I get in contact with my lecturer? The primary lecturer can be contacted by telephone (012 429 4466) form 08:00 to 14:00 during the week. If you are unable to get hold of the lecturer by phone, please send an email to [email protected] with your enquiry – remember to provide your student number and the module code. You can also contact the helpdesk at 012 429 3603 for urgent enquiries. Examination: 1. Could you give me an idea of the scope of the examination paper? The examination paper is based on the prescribed book and the learning outcomes provided in the learning units. Each learning outcome statement and assessment criterion may be used to set examination questions. Please do not call the lecturers to enquire about the “scope” of the examination paper. 2. What do I need to bring to the examination venue? Bring your identity document (ID), your student card, an HB pencil (to complete the MCQ answer sheet), a black pen, a financial calculator, a ruler, an eraser and a pencil sharpener. 3. What happens if I fail any papers? If you fail the exam paper for RSK4805, you will have to re-register to complete the module in the next academic year. Any enquiries regarding re-marks must be directed to the Head: Examinations, Box 392, Unisa, 0003 or e-mailed to [email protected]. Students who obtain a mark of 40% will be granted a supplementary opportunity in May. 4. Will I receive a formula sheet in the examination? A formula sheet will be supplied in the examination paper. A formula sheet is available under Additional Resources and the one used in the examination will look exactly the same. Please note that not all formulas are indicated on the formula sheet; you have to know the ones that are not there. 5. No.

Will it be an open-book examination?

Study material: 1. I have not received any study material. This module is offered fully online and you therefore need to go to different sections on myUnisa as indicated on the left side of the site to find your study material and to complete the learning activities for this module. All study material for this module is only available online. It is therefore very important that you visit myUnisa on a regular basis. Additional resources and self-assessment questions are also only available online. You need to download your assignment questions from Additional Resources. 2. What is the prescribed book for the RSK4805 module? The prescribed book is indicated in Tutorial Letter 101. 3. What kind of calculator should I use? You can use any non-programmable financial or scientific calculator. The lecturer will only be able to assist you with the workings of the HP10BII and Texas Instruments financial calculators.
