MKTG90004 Marketing Management SE1 2020 Examination FAQ NOTE: Please carefully read and understand this FAQ document. Practice the processes mentioned below and ask your subject coordinator if you have any questions. You should clarify any questions you have before you sit for your MKTG90004 exam.

*First, please read the UoM guide to online examinations: https://students.unimelb.edu.au/yourcourse/manage-your-course/exams-assessments-and-results/exams/exam-types. It has many answers to questions you may have. For this subject, the exam type is a strict time limit exam (within a broader time limit window), and the submission format is a Canvas Quiz.

General Information on the Online Timed Exam 1. What type of exam will we be sitting? This is an online open book exam, with a strict time limit to complete. You may use all materials from the subject including texts, readings, and lecture content.

2. What is the length of the MKTG90004 exam? You will have 3 hours to complete the exam once you start. You can complete the exam any time within the 6-hour window. The 3-hour exam format includes reading time and extra time to upload your answers at the end of the exam. There is no additional reading time outside the 3 hours.

3. What do you mean by a ‘6-hour window’? This means you can complete your 3-hour exam any time within the 6-hour window. However, you must submit the exam before the cut off time. You will have strictly 3 hours. For example: The exam for MGMT90210 Deployment of Regulated Capital is a 3-hour exam in a 6-hour window. The exam window starts at 9:00am and closes at 3:00pm. • • •

Tom starts his exam at 9:00am. He must complete all exam questions by 12:00pm. At 12:00pm Tom’s exam will close automatically. Andi starts her exam at 11:40am. She must complete all exam questions by 2:40pm. At 2:40pm Andi’s exam will close automatically. Paula starts her exam at 2:00pm. She must complete all exam questions by 3:00pm because this is the end of the 6-hour exam window. At 3:00pm Paula’s exam will close automatically even though she has only had 1-hour to work on it.

You cannot go over the time limit. When the time is up and you have not submitted your answers, a pop-up window will ask you to submit your answers or Canvas will force your submission. If you start the exam late, you will receive a message, “You started this quiz near when it was due, so you won’t have the full amount of time to take the quiz.” Canvas will automatically submit the quiz at the cut-off time for the 6-hour window and the system will close your access to the exam. All work you have completed will be saved and submitted. Any questions that were not answered will be scored as incorrect.

4. What is the suggested time structure for the exam? The structure of the exam and our expectations of the volume of work are comparable to a traditional twohour exam. We have allocated three hours (including reading time) because the open-book format may mean that you spend more time consulting your learning resources. Please allow time to ensure all answers have been saved. Exam includes two sections: -

Section 1: Contains 4 short answer questions. You are required to answer all questions. This section accounts for 40 marks. Section 2: Contains 2 long answer case study questions. You are required to answer all questions. This section accounts for 60 marks.

Further instruct: -

It is recommended that you spend around 65 minutes on the section 1 and 105 minutes on the 2 leaving you 10 minutes to review your answers in the end There is no word limit in the test You can complete this exam by looking at the subject materials (required readings and seminar slides) without a need to conduct external research or cite external references Important UoM website with all the necessary exam info including support services and technical support: https://students.unimelb.edu.au/your-course/manage-your-course/exams-assessmentsand-results/exams

5. When is the exam? Please refer to university student portal and the subject Canvas LMS for your exam day/time details: https://my.unimelb.edu.au/

6. Will there be any online invigilators monitoring me? No, there will not be any online invigilators for this exam. However, you are under examination conditions. There is an expectation that you will be completing the exam entirely on your own. During the exam, you should not be discussing the exam questions or your answers with anyone. Your exam answers that you submit should be completely your own work. Please be advised that online answers can be monitored and screened for plagiarism and collusion, through Turnitin. You will be subjected to severe penalties if there is any evidence that you have colluded with anyone or committed any breaches of academic integrity: https://academicintegrity.unimelb.edu.au/#academicintegrity. You must adhere to the values of honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility.

7. What if I have questions at any point in the 6-hour exam window? You can reach out to the subject coordinator during the first three hours of the exam via the Discussion board function in Canvas. To access the Discussion boards: Canvas LMS >> MKTG90004 >> Discussions >> Exam Questions DURING the online exam https://canvas.lms.unimelb.edu.au/courses/4036/discussion_topics/242677 Be mindful that the Discussions functions are a PUBLIC forums and ALL students in your subject will be able to see your question. Please ensure you do not divulge or discuss your answers.

During the Exam 8. Where do I view the exam questions? You can view the exam questions in Canvas when it becomes available. To access, follow the following steps: Canvas LMS >> MKTG90004 >> Assignments >> Marketing Management (MKTG90004_2020_SM1). We highly recommend you access the exam via Canvas using the browsers Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Do not use Internet Explorer or Safari. There are compatibility issues between these browsers and Canvas.

9. How do I input my exam answers? You will be completing the exam in the format of a “quiz”. That means, all your input will be directly into Canvas. You must type all your answers directly into the Canvas Quiz unless directed otherwise. There is a timer to show you how much time is left in your 3 hours, and you will get a short reminder when you have one-minute left before the submission deadline. The 3 hours starts when you click “begin”. All answers must be completed within 3 hours of this start time.

10. What happens if there is an IT issue/or connection drop-out? Canvas saves your work every 7 seconds. If your internet connection is unstable, or if your computer shuts down, it will save everything you have done so far. You can change your answer at any time and it will re-save your changes. Canvas will re-save all final answers when you press “submit quiz” at the end. The timer will continue to run whether you are logged into the quiz or not. If you lose your internet connection, try to log back in as quickly as possible to resume the quiz. You should use a wired (“plugged in”) internet connection when taking an exam/quiz in Canvas if you can, OR a very stable wireless connection, with back up (perhaps phone tethering). There are no extensions to the 3 hours if you have internet or computer problems.

12. Where do I draw my exam answers that ask me to DRAW? For MKTG90004 you do not need to draw a figure or an image in the exam.
