Description

Simplified Preparation Outline: Introductory Speech Name: Lakota Riddlesperger Speech Title: God and Films Speech Purpose: To inform Thesis: We all have things that make us who we are List of Visual Aids Used: Sound equipment, pictures of hypocritical people.

Introduction Attention Getter: A boat is in a storm being torn to pieces. As people fall into the water we sit wondering if they are going to die. Just as the last hand goes under, a rescue boat comes out of nowhere saving everyone moments before death. Two lovers sit close as one is about to die. They kiss, hold each other, and tell each other they love each other as they wait. As a tear falls down our face, the lover dies, leaving the other alone. Two friends exchange jokes and make fun of each other, causing us to laugh and smile. A man walks through a dark alley as someone jumps out at him with a knife, causing us to jump with fear These are the scenes in movies that we love. The ones that make us laugh, cry, cringe, cause us to be afraid, and cause us to sit on the edge of our seats in anticipation. These scenes and more are what make me want a career in filmmaking. Thesis: We all have things that make us who we are Preview of Main Points: Today I am going to talk about how in my life, I have had two main motivators. My faith and beliefs as a Christian, and my desire and passion to be a director.

Body Transition: First, I will discuss my faith I. When I say I am a Christian, some of you may think of me in an ill manner. A. This is most likely because of “Christians” you have met.

1. Since I cannot show you my faith, I thought this might help a bit. (show picture) (Read what it says) 2. Unfortunately many Christians are like this next person (show next picture) (read picture aloud) 3. Hypocrites. They go to church or claim to be Christian, but besides the fact that they told you they are a Christian, you would never have guessed. B. When I say I am a Christian, I mean that I try to be respectful, and have integrity and honesty 1. I mean that I will try not to judge, and that I will try to show God’s love through me, in any way that I can. 2. I also mean that I will make mistakes, but that does not mean I am not a true believer, it just means that I am human, and that I am no better than anyone else, believer or non-believer. C. My faith is what drives me. It’s what causes me to make decisions, and what gives me the reasons behind those decisions. 1.The two main things I take away from my faith are; love everyone, and treat other’s the way that you want to be treated. Transition: Now that I have told you a little bit more about my faith, I am going to tell you more about my desire to be a director. II. I have always loved coming up with ideas for movies and shows. A. When I was a lot younger I would come up with ideas for movies and shows as I watched them. 1. As I grew older, I started making my ideas with more details and complexity 2. As I got even older I realized that I could make my ideas a reality if I tried hard enough B. I saved up and bought a lot of video equipment like this (show sound equipment) 1. I also bought camera’s, lighting equipment, boom poles, and more 2. If any of you know, video equipment is very expensive 3. I continue to save and spend extra cash on even more equipment. C. I realized though, that equipment is not enough. 1. I need connections and professional hands on training. 2. That is why I started furthering my education, and started taking classes like these. 3. With classes like this and others, I know if I continue to work hard at it, I can accomplish my goals, make those connections, and further my career to lead me where I want to go.

Conclusion Restate Thesis: Those are the two main things that make me who I am Signpost to conclusion: So, in conclusion, remember my name, you may just see it on the big screen someday.

Memorable Closer: If you do, see how I am living my life. Am I still living by my beliefs and morale’s that I have today, or have I become a hypocrite like so many others? Are the things that make me who I am today the same things that make me who I am in the future?...
