CLC Mission and Vision Statements Analysis and Company Overview History Amazon (AMZN) was started by founder Jeff Bezos in 1995 as an online bookstore (David, David, David, 2020). In the same time period the internet became widespread and this combination quickly led to Amazon becoming a global powerhouse in online commerce. Amazon created a merchant program, allowing others to sell products on the site (David, David, & David, 2020). Amazon is now recognized as a supply chain innovator in that they manage many parts of their supply chain including transportation and shipping, and more recently they have acquired Whole Foods which allows for them to deliver fresh food utilizing their complex logistics capabilities and rapid delivery options. Amazon is laser focused in their innovation, use of technology, and long term strategy. They have continued to grow since their inception by doing the basic things very well (Ovenden, 2020). Amazon uses a complex inventory and warehousing system and complicated transportation system. They have also implemented drones and robotics into their technology mix (LeBlanc, 2019). Amazon re-invests much of their profit into innovation, in order to maintain their delivery and warehousing dominance. This innovative business model is not cheap by any means. Because of the number of products they offer, brand recognition and quality control can be problematic for the company. These somewhat problematic issues are compensated for with the volume of business they transact. The have also started manufacturing products and selling them under the Amazon brand to overcome some of these obstacles and they provide their sellers with their technology applications for managing supply levels (Johnson, 2020). They have been
