Haley Black Professor Cook English 1A 29 November 2016 Self Reflection Essay Throughout this fall semester in my English 1A class I believe that I have grown and improved significantly as a writer. Professor Cook has worked with me and showed me the areas that I need to improve on and how to improve in those areas of writing. She demonstrated how to form a well developed, organized and strong essay. Coming into this English 1A class I was definitely not as strong of a writer, but being in this class has improved my confidence in myself and I believe that I have become a much better writer than I was a couple months ago. I was showed the steps and the process to follow in order to accomplish a well developed essay and I was taught how to fully comprehend readings that we have done in this class. Being showed the steps that I should take and the process that I should follow in order to create a well- developed essay throughout this semester has entirely changed the way that I write. I now begin formulating an essay by first writing an outline of what I would like to include throughout my essay to gather my thoughts. Then I take my outline and turn it into a rough draft of what I would like my essay to convey. After writing my first rough draft, I have a peer read over it and edit what they believe will help improve my essay. Once my essay has been peer-edited, I read over it again and revise what my peer expressed should be edited. I have learned that it is okay to rewrite my introduction paragraph, or even any paragraph that does not seem to make sense and fit in with the main claim for my essay. draft of my essays really helps me see what I can improve on and helps me develop a well-written essay. Throughout this fall semester in my English 1A class, I have been taught how to improve my comprehension of articles or books that we have read throughout. I feel much more confident in my ability to completely understand readings and the main ideas being expressed throughout each of them. I now can fully understand the audience intended to be reading a specific piece of writing and its rhetorical appeals, for example, ethos, pathos and logos. Being able to learn this ability to its full extent, allows for my writings on any books or article to become much stronger and understood. Improving my abilities as a writer this semester in English 1A definitely will help me further my writing abilities in upper level english classes. I believe that after this semester of learning more writing skills, I will be able to write more complex and improved essays. Leaning to pre write, revise, and edit my essays in advance has allowed me to be able to express my thoughts more fully and completely. I am more confident in my writing skills and my ability to thoroughly convey my main claims throughout my essays and feel that I will be able to succeed in an upper level english class next semester....
