Description

Why animal testing should not be banned Animal testing is also known as animal experimentation, animal research, and the use of animals for experiments. However, it had inspired a heated debate that animal testing is a form of cruelty towards animal and should be banned. However, animal testing should not be banned for many reasons.

1. Animal testing should not be banned because it plays an important role in human life. Firstly, the animal testing is important in scientific and medical field. many diseases occur, scientist work hard on developing an effective medicine to prevent and cure the diseases. They have to find the suitable substances that can help patient and at the same time does not risk them. So, in other to look for the best medicine, they have to test the effectiveness of the medicine on the animal. They cannot just simply give the medicine to the patient as it may cause harm to human itself. Until today, there are many research that shows that animal testing had help us to cure many diseases: 

Develop modern vaccines such as TB, (HPV) and Ebola.

Create a medicine called Herceptin – a humanised mouse protein – has helped to increase the survival rate breast cancer patient.

Development of athsma inhaler.

Insulin for diabetes.

In 1945, Alexander Fleming and the other two scientists got a noble prize for their success on discovering penicillin, which can fight infections inside the body by testing it on mice.

Because of this animal testing process, we humankind are able to discover many medicine to fight disease until today. I think these are enough to show how animal testing had play a vital role in the medical field. Imagine if we cant carry out the animal testing before, we might be

suffering for the same diseases until today such as cancer, HIV etc and does not have a medicine to fight these diseases.

2. Secondly, animal is the only living thing besides human that can be experimented. If u say that it’s cruel to test any drug on animal, so how? It will be much crueler to test new drugs on people or children. Furthermore, most of the animal used in research have short lifespans and reproduce quickly. Such as mice and frog. So, basically, the animal testing does not give big impact on the decrease of the animal’s population. Besides, the government such as UK had provided a regulation on the animal testing process.     

Should have license The research cannot be done using non-animal methods The minimum number of animals will be used Dogs, cats or primates are only used when other species are not suitable. By people with sufficient training, skills and experience

This regulation proves how animal testing is carried out in a proper way and not cruel. In fact, we share 95% of our genes with a mouse, making them an effective model for the human body. Many veterinary medicines are the same as those used for human patients: examples including antibiotics, pain killers and tranquillisers. . It’s worth it as we only kill small number of animals but we save the whole human’s life.

3. we EAT more than we test. Researched shown:  5 million animals were used for animal experiments in Europe in 2011  The food industry produced 44 million tonnes of animal meat for consumption.

So which is much crueler?  If we should banned the animal testing, why not banned us from eating the animal instead?  Impossible right ? So that’s it. Its impossible also for us to banned animal testing  Besides banned it, we should at least create a better regulation to protect the animal. Besides that…In fact, Most of the animal used in research are rodents, birds and fishes. Dogs, cats and primates altogether account for less than 0.2% of research animals. Household cats kill approximately 5 million animals every week – more than the total number of animals used in medical research every year.

QUOTE to assert my stand that animal testing should not be banned o “Without animal research, medicine will stop. Think of organ transplantation. Without animal testing nothing would have been possible.”– Giuseppe Remuzzi, President of the International Society of Nephrology o “Americans are living longer, healthier lives and we owe much of that success to biomedical research” Dr Robert Palazzo, President of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB)

o Albert Sabin, who developed the Polio vaccine said, “Without animal

research, polio would still be claiming thousands of lives each year.”...
