Body Cavities Activity
LEARNING TARGET ADDRESSED: Describe the location of the major body cavities and place the major organs of the body in the correct body cavity. TASK: Create a concept map of the body cavities with the correct organs in them. BACKGROUND: The body is divided into regions to allow for communication among health and medical professionals. The major divisions are: Cranial, Vertebral, Thoracic, Abdominal and Pelvic. Some of these can be broken down further as you will learn. MATERIALS ● White Paper ● Markers/colored pencils ● Textbook PROCEDURE 1. Make a Web Concept Map. This means that you start with the main topic in the middle and then branch out into sub-topics. Off of the sub-topics, you create bubbles that describe the sub-topics. 2. Follow the guidelines below to create the concept map: ● Main topic=Body Cavities ● Sub-topics: Cranial, Vertebral, Thoracic, Abdominal and Pelvic ● Include the name of each of the organs that are found in the cavity ● Include a picture of each of the organs in that cavity ● Make sure that the concept map is in color and is neat!! 3. Conclusion Questions A. Why would it be important for a medical professional to know the body regions? B. What separates the abdominal cavity from the thoracic cavity?
