Apush Summary Theodore Roosevelt...

Description

Sofia Ferreira Mr. Frink APUSH February 28th, 2017

Theodore Roosevelt was one of the greatest presidents of all time. He knew exactly what the people of the U.S. wanted and was very adamant in the way he went about things. When Taft was in office, for example, Roosevelt began criticizing his policies. The point of no return, however, was when Taft’s Attorney General filed an antitrust suit against the U.S. Steel Corporation because of an acquisition that Roosevelt had previously approved. This completely enraged Roosevelt and this is when the Bull Moose Party that he created came into play and he decided to run for a third term. This then led to the Progressives establishing their own party of teachers, lawyers, farmers and other small-town folk. Although many of these people were in the Progressive Party for different reasons, Roosevelt brought them all together and made them realize that the government has been taken over by special interests, instead of being in the hands of the people. Theodore Roosevelt was very accepting and he even allowed African Americans into his Bull Moose Party. Wilson and Roosevelt were two completely different people. Wilson was a state’s rights man who stressed that the history of liberty was a history of limiting the power of the national government. Whereas, Roosevelt was a confirmed nationalist, and he felt that the history of social progress proved that only a strong central government could level the playing field. Roosevelt also campaigned heavily for a commission to regulate corporations. Then on October 14th, while giving a speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was shot in the chest. However, Roosevelt was so dedicated to our country that he actually continued speaking for 90 minutes after he was shot, before proceeding to the hospital.

Roosevelt was probably one of the most dedicated presidents of all time. He felt that the government had the right to moderate the excess of free enterprise and felt that social security, regulation of stock trading, and a minimum wage were all very crucial additions that needed to be added in the U.S. He was also the first President to ever express environmentalism as a key policy that needs to be defended. He recognized that our duty is to use the world’s natural resources, but not to waste them. He set aside many acres of land and dedicated them as preservatives and natural parks, which was in turn, benefiting the animals and plants. Theodore Roosevelt is looked at as one of the best presidents because he did everything empathetically. Roosevelt made sure that he felt his actions were best for his people and tried to be as fair as possible. He wanted the best for the U.S. and made being an American a more exciting experience....
