VII.

Malaysia had produced 0.94 million tons may have been washed into the oceans.

VIII.

13% of Malaysia’s solid wastes are plastic and paper.

(Transition: Let’s look more closely at what are the materials that contained in the plastic bags.)

1

Body

I.

Plastic waste is one of many types of wastes that take too long to decompose. A. Based on the bar graph, 1. Plastic bags in our everyday life take 15 to 1000 years to decompose. 2. Paper bags need 1 to 2 months to decompose. 3. The other plastic type such as plastic bottles does not decompose at all. B. Plastic bags created from fossil fuel and required a giant of amounts of water and energy in ordered to have manufactured and shipped. 1. The manufacturing process results in billions of pounds of solid waste and millions of tons of carbon dioxide every year. 2. Plastic production requires lots of electricity which comes from coal power plants, nuclear powers and old burning tires. 3. The energy needed to manufacture and transport these plastic bags, eats up resources and creates poisonous emissions. C. According to research, paper bags take more than 4 times as much as energy to produce than to produce a plastic bag. 1. Paper bags are made mostly from trees, which means millions of tree are cut down each year to produce them.

(Transition: So, what are the impacts to our earth?)

II.

Plastic bags, A. They break down into smaller and smaller pieces, which can harm the soil and get eaten by animals. B. Plastic bags also cause problems for animals, trapping or choking hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, whales, and other animals, both in ocean and on land. C. Off the California, there is a plastic island, made up of 7 billion pounds of plastic trash. 1. There are many of birds, marine life and land animals die each year, either by strangulation or mistaking plastic for food. D. Plastic bags are rarely recycled, about 1 to 3%.

2

1. Because it is cost about thousand of ringgit to recycle 1 ton of plastic bags. 2. The leftover then needs to be disposed in toxic waste dumps.

III.

Paper bags, A. Recycling paper uses large amounts of fossil fuels, energy, water and it produces even more air and water pollutants.

B. Buying recycled paper, which usually isn’t 100% recycled, also cost much more than virgin paper, which is then passed on to you, the customer.

(Transition: What is the best solution for this problem?)

IV.

The banned of the plastic bags, A. Malaysia’s effort to the effort to reduce the use of plastic bags. 1. It is beginning when the Penang state in 2009 banned the use of plastic bags from shopping store on Monday. 2. In 2010, Selangor state followed to ban the use of the plastic bags for customers on Saturday and then followed by the Malacca State. 3. Then, the Federal government through the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism (MDTCC) in 2011 launched the “No Plastic Bags Day” campaign throughout Malaysia for each Saturday. 4. Starting 2017, the Selangor governments “No Plastic Bags Day” campaign which is held on Saturday, now will extended to everyday of the week. 5. The objective of this campaign is to reduce the use of plastic bags to reduce the negative impacts on the environment.

V.

So, the best solution for the environment is to bring your own reusable bags. A. Reusable bags, 1. For just a few ringgits, you can purchase a sturdy, machine washable, reusable bag. 2. There are many different types to choose from, but the best quality and most economical are either made of durable cotton or canvas.

3

3. Reusable bags are stronger than paper or plastic and can hold many items. 4. They do not fall apart like paper if they get wet or take up space in our pantries like plastic.

VI.

Based on the graph, A. 53% shoppers still buy single-use plastic bags and the others have already switched to reusable bags. B. 63% admit they do so because they forget to bring their reusable bags into the store. C. To avoid the forgetfulness of bring reusable bags,

1. You need to buy enough bags and always keep the bags in the car, not in the house 2. After you unload your purchases, take the bags right back to the car or at least put them right by your wallet or purse or as a woman, you put the bags in your handbag, so you do not forget to take them back to the car. D. The majority of those who choose reusable bags do so because they care about the environment. It is show in this graph which is 91% said it. VII.

One person using reusable bags over their lifetime would remove more than 22,000 plastic bags from the environment. Isn’t that an even better incentive?

Conclusion

I. Using reusable bags is a simple, easy, and affordable way for you to help sustain the environment and economy. II. After learning the environmental impact of producing paper, from cutting down forests, polluting the air and water, you can see that it is not the best decision. III. With the billions of plastic bags trash covering the planet, killing wildlife, you can see why countries and cities are banning them. IV. That is why the best solution, the only solution for you, your wallet and the environment are reusable material bags. V. Stop using paper and plastic bags while shopping and choose to bring your own reusable bags instead.
