Transition to Body: First, lets talk about some reasons why Physical education is needed in the first place.

Body

I.

Main Point: Need of physical activities

A. Lack of physical activity 1. Children in today’s society show a decrease in overall physical activity. The growing use of computers, increased time watching television and decreased physical education in schools, all contribute to children and adolescents living a more sedentary lifestyle. 2. Another major factor contributing to the childhood obesity epidemic is the increased sedentary lifestyle of children. School-aged children spend most of their day in school where their only activity comes during recess or physical education classes. In the past, physical education was required on a daily basis. Currently, only 8 percent of elementary schools and less than 7 percent of middle schools and high schools have daily physical education requirements in the U.S.

B. Bad nutrition and heredity are considering some of the causes of childhood obesity. 1. Fat produce by calorie intake is much greater than the average energy uses of an individual. The imbalance that creates this world is due to the readily available foods and drinks that are high in sugar and fats. According to CDC. 2. Health diseases that can be avoid with a wealthy diet.

Second Main Point: Obesity A.

Obesity is defined as having excess body fat. 1. Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents. It occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his or her age and height. 2. In the United stetes, obesity is a growing epidemic. Childhood obesity is a health issue. Today, more and more children are being diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension and other co-morbid conditions associated with obesity and morbid obesity. A child is defined as “affected by obesity” if their body mass index-for-age (or BMI-for-age) percentile is greater than 95 percent. A child is defined as “overweight” if their BMI-for-age percentile is greater than 85 percent and less than 95 percent.

Childhood obesity has both immediate and long-term effects on health and well-being. According to the CDC.

B.

1. The Immediate health effects:

-Obese youth are more likely to have risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. In a population-based sample of 5- to 17-year-olds, 70% of obese youth had at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease. -Obese adolescents are more likely to have prediabetes, a condition in which blood glucose levels indicate a high risk for development of diabetes. -Children and adolescents who are obese are at greater risk for bone and joint problems, sleep apnea, and social and psychological problems such as stigmatization and poor self-esteem.

2.Long term health effects: •

Children and adolescents who are obese are likely to be obese as adults11-14 and are therefore more at risk for adult health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, several types of cancer, and osteoarthritis.6 One study showed that children who became obese as early as age 2 were more likely to be obese as adults.12

Overweight and obesity are associated with increased risk for many types of cancer, including cancer of the breast, colon, endometrium, esophagus, kidney, pancreas, gall bladder, thyroid, ovary, cervix, and prostate, as well as multiple myeloma and Hodgkin’s lymphoma.15

(Transition to Third Main Point) Acording to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Healthy

lifestyle habits, including healthy eating and physical activity, can lower the risk of becoming obese and developing related diseases. III. Third Main Point: Fort this reason, is that we have to prevent this issues that is affecting the world. A.

Furthermore, schools should provide opportunities for students to learn about and practice healthy eating and physical activity behaviors. 1. 2. The physical education should teach students to Education on how to read food labels, cut back on portions, understand the food pyramid and eat smaller bites at a smaller pace is generally the information given to change a child’s eating habits.

B. Physical education 1. This activity is considering a treatment for childhood obesity. Also, for those children that are not obese, doing exercise is good for them. According to kidshealth.org, some of the benefits are: -have stronger muscles and bones -have a leaner body because exercise helps control body fat -be less likely to become overweight -decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes -lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels -have a better outlook on life 2. Increasing physical activity can decrease, or at least slow the increase, in fatty tissues in children affected by obesity. The US Surgeon General recommends that children get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.

(Transition to Conclusion for informative and persuasive speeches; call to action – what you want them to do -- for persuasive speech): For this reasons, students of high school should exercise at least once a day. Conclusion: I.

Summarize and restate thesis: Physical activities are needed for students in the school.

II.

Review (each main point): As it was previously stated, these activities are not only going to help you to be in good shape. Also, will help you build a new healthy life style.

III.

Connection of information presented (main points) to introduction:

IV.

Memorable, creative conclusion (end with impact):

Achieving a healthier body requires a lifestyle change, not going to PE class a couple times a week for an hour each day. PE is nowhere near enough to combat the rate of obesity and overweight people. Other than that, it is parents' jobs to make sure that their kids get exercise. Schools' jobs are for building peoples' minds and enriching their knowledge.

V.

Ask audience if they have any questions for informative and persuasive speeches.

Factors. Stress reduces… kids interacts…
