Description

Savana Craven Family History June 27, 2016 (Have spent 2 hours) Ward Plan My plan consists of a few ideas that I feel will promote and increase family history work among members. First, I would teach them why family history is important by quoting our beloved prophet. “We…were sent to earth at this time that we might participate in hastening this great work…I believe He is hastening His work in the spirit world…Our job is to search out our dead and then go to the temple and perform the sacred ordinances that will bring to those beyond the veil the same opportunities we have…The Lord expects you and me to perform our family history work well… We are going to make mistakes, but none of us can become an expert in family history work without first being a novice. Therefore, we must plunge into this work…This is not an easy task, but the Lord has placed it upon you, and He has placed it upon me…There are millions upon millions of spirit children of our Heavenly Father who never heard the name of Christ before dying and going into the spirit world. But now they have been taught the gospel and are awaiting the day when you and I will do the research necessary to clear the way so that we can go into the house of the Lord and perform for them the work that they themselves cannot perform. My brothers and sisters, I testify that the Lord will bless us as we accept and respond to this challenge.” Next, I would teach them the basics of how to use family history by showing this video: Beginning Family History “When leaders find the names of their ancestors, take their names to the temple, and teach others to do the same, the salvation of the living and the dead is enabled.” I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed and confused when just starting out, but I can promise that the time and effort you put into learning and understanding will ultimately bless you. The ingredient for success is to maintain a positive attitude and never give up. Your skills will only increase as you continually practice and you will notice an increase of the spirit in your life. Going to the temple and doing names for your direct ancestors is special and they will be forever grateful for your efforts. Inspiring video: General Conference Training

My Ideas 

  

Hold a competition between ward members o Whoever works on family history the most hours o Have a board hung up (in plain sight) where members can place a sticker for every hour they completed o Have a prize at the end of each month Make it an option for young women to do as a project to get their medallion o As long as ten hours is spent Assign more family history callings o This forces people to get into it Teach it in primary, get little kids into it o Maybe hold a little competition amongst the children, they love technology Hold activities where we gather and work on family history together o Provide food as incentive o Teach how to index

At the end I would give out those new family history-helping pamphlets talked about in the second video for ward members to take home....
