Description

1 Effects bullying can have on a child’s life Adults that can help stop bullying in children can help them be more successful because the children who do get bullied can have physical and mental issues that can follow them into adulthood. Children that get bullied can have social and mental issues that may affect them for the rest of their life. Children may never get over all the bullying that happened to them in school and that could impact them all the way into adulthood. Bullying can have a negative impact on a child’s life in more ways than one. Three ways that bullying can impact a child’s life is by having a higher risk of health concerns, lower academic achievements, and more of a risk to have depression and anxiety over the child’s lifetime. There’s no doubt that a child that has been bullied has a higher risk of having more health concerns that can follow them for the rest of their life. Health concerns is something serious to consider due to the bullying because a child could have them for the rest of their life. Bullying in a child’s life can lead them into having higher risks of social behavior, medical problems, and mental issues (Rezapour, Khanjani, Soori, 2019). Any child that has been a victim of bullying can act out to anyone due to all the anger they have inside. Different forms of bullying that can cause health concerns in children who are being verbally, physical, and social bullied (Salimi, Karimi-Shahanjarini, Rezapur-Shahkolai, Hamzeh, Roshanaei, & Babamiri, 2019). When a child is verbally or physically bullied it can cause them to shut down and refuse to talk to anyone. Youth children are at a higher risk of having more health concerns due to drug use and alcohol use (Afifi, El Asmar, Bteddini, Assi, Yassin, Bitar, & Ghandour, 2020). Bullying can have a serious impact on a child’s health and their health may never be the same due to the bullying.

On the other hand, a child of any age that has been bullied is at a higher risk of not wanting to learn and not wanting to attend school as well as having lower academic

2 achievements. A child that has been bullied by another student makes that child fill unsafe at school and makes that child lose their focus on their schoolwork (Bowser, Larson, Bellmore, Olson, Resnik, 2018). Children want to go to school and learn and be with their friends but if they have one or more bullies at school, they won’t like school anymore and might not care to do their schoolwork. Any child that get bullied in school makes that child not want to talk and that can reflect on their schoolwork because they won’t ask for help (‘School bullying linked’, 2017). The more bullied a child gets in school the more they will shut down and not care about themselves or their schoolwork (‘School bullying linked’, 2017). Teachers and staff at schools should make each student fill safe and come to them if they have any problems and also help find a way to stop any form of bullying at school.

Finally, one last impact bullying can have on a child is having depression and anxiety issues throughout their life. Children that have been bullied by a sibling or another classmate at school have a higher risk of hurting themselves due to having depression and anxiety (Dantchev, Hickman, Heron, Zammit, Wolke, 2019). Depression and anxiety are something that needs action right way because it can lead to more serious problems. No child deserves to feel sad and angry all the time because they were bullied at school or at home. Depression and anxiety in children can cause suicidal thoughts due to being bullied (Hunt, Peter’s, Rapee, 2012). Being a parent, we want to give our children everything and the fear of having them do something to themselves is scary. Being bullied can cause a child to fell anxious when going to school because they are afraid of the bully (Smokowski, Paul, Kopasz, Holland, 2005). Bullying is something that can leave a child feeling helpless, so they feel depressed and have thoughts of hurting themselves on a daily basics.

3 No doubt that health concerns, lower academic achievement, and depression and anxiety are some of the ways bullying can have forever lasting impacts on a child’s life. Health concerns can leave a child feeling alone and also with social, medical, and mental issues that may never go away. Children should want to go to school and achieve academically but if the bullying doesn’t stop then they might give up and refuse to attend school anymore. Depression and anxiety is nothing to mess around with because it can lead up to a child wanting to harm themselves. Bullying has more of an impact on a child’s life more than we think. Any form of bullying needs to stop especially in school because every parent wants their child to be successful in every way. Every child deserves to be happy and reach for what they want in life, but bullying can have an influence on their future if it does not stop.
