Oral anglais 1 : consumption In our materialistic society, consumption has become a habit. We consume without taking care of environment or human matters. The notion Spaces and exchanges deals with the symbolic areas that all societies occupy and the interactions between men and societies. Consumption has moved and it characterizes our modern-day world. The way to exchange goods or services progressed in space. So we can wonder how people’s consumptions habits have progressed. On the one hand, we will approach the trouble society has to face and then, we will study the new different alternatives to consume. We live in a consumption society. It means that people buy more and more until the excess. With the emergence of new technologies, consumers make shopping online to save time. For instance, Mega Monday embodies the busiest and the biggest shopping day on internet to purchase the last items for Christmas. £320 million may be spent that specific day. Besides, globalization, the phenomenon of interdependence of states with the growth of the exchanges make easier the transfer of goods and services all over the world, has consequences and digs the gap between developed and developing countries. Child labour has increased and prices too. Fortunately, fair trade, with a view to curbing disparities, cutting the middle-man, helping poor farmers and promoting sustainable development to produce organic products. Some organizations were founded like Max Havelaar in 1998. In order to fight overconsumption and globalization, some new alternatives to consume have appeared. For a few years, new ways of consumption, more responsible and ecofriendly have been developed. Freeganism, for instance aims at reducing the excess of consumerism and paying more attention to environment. It consists in swapping products, recycle as possible as we can and reuse what we don’t need anymore. Moreover, collaborative consumption, including bartering, aims at developing socializing link between consumers, saving money and protecting the environment. Bartering enables us to save money, it’s a way to consume aware of environment and it renewed sense of community. To put in a nutshell, the way to consume has moved. With the emergence of new technologies, shopping online has become very popular. Globalization creates an issue between developed and developing countries digging the gap. Fortunately, solutions exist to tackle these issues like fair trade, collaborative consumption or freeganism to improve the way to consume....
