A Gala – Exhibition on Minerals in the Main Hall of PAI DAGOGI KI Educational School in Piraeus , Hellas. ORYKTOLOGI KA NEA-NEWS ON MI NERALS in cooperation w ith the Educational Foundation PAI DAGOGI KI Primary School , based in Piraeus , organized w ith great success a Gala-Exhibition on Minerals in the properly designed building installations of this school , w hich has a huge traditional contribution in the Education in Hellas. The w hole event under the heading “The Minerals in our Life and the World” , was planned in an integrated way –as can be seen both in the text of the invitation above and the Poster below by combining talks on Minerals and a Gem and Mineral show w here the pupils of the School and the audience could see in LI VE w ell crystallized colorful gem and mineral specimens , while there were on display books , maps , CDs , educational products on Earth Sciences , Collections of Rocks and Minerals , Mineral Postage Stamps and Geophilotelic documents and many more items related w ith the topic covered by this Event. Since the early years of the foundation of ORYKTOLOGI KA NEA-NEWS ON MI NERALS ,we had noticed that lectures on Earth given in a way accessible to the non-specialists and junior people combined w ith a gem and mineral show , had effective results in a sense to give more to the juniors and all the attendants. I t was also a great pleasure to see among the enthusiastic audience , colleagues from the Ministry of Development of Hellas as this Ministry is in charge of the Exploration and Exploitation of the Mineral Wealth in Greece. I f you ever be in Athens, you should visit the Central Building of the Ministry of Development ( Messogheion 119 ) where top quality mineral specimens from Hellas and other Countries are on display w orth to see. ORYKTOLOGI KA NEA-NEWS ON MI NERALS during the last 25 years either through the pages of this Periodical or through GeMin Exhibition held annually in At hens or through various manifestations , ideas and proposal , have and are still trying to spread the know ledge on Minerals , as everything man has used or still is using either is cultivated or it is mined. The lectures given during in this event , included a general introduction on the structure of the Earth, the periodical System of various chemical elements , the report of how chemical elements join to form minerals and how minerals join to form rocks and deposits based on Earth s Regulations and Processes. After this introduction a selection of common industrial products made by man were projected , analysed and looked in detail as to the minerals and energy required to make them , w here these minerals are found and the problem of equilibrium production of mineral resources versus consumption. Examples given were , common w ooden graphite pencil , a car , the various types of glass , a common electric incandescent lamp ( using w olfram wire) , gold ( its uses) including its use in passive saving energy systems and this first part of the talk ended w ith a statistical example of great importance on how much – in average - of various metals and non-metals , a new ly born baby in w estern type societies , w ill consume in his/ her w hole life . The second part of the talk included a Mineralogical trip in the World through mineral postage stamps.
