Mofeu Chelsie Tambang, FNU Tambang9 CAS 112 Career Explorations My chosen major is chemistry. And with this major, I can divert into many different occupations. After my graduation, some jobs that are directly related to my bachelor’s degree in chemistry include; analytical chemist, chemical engineer, healthcare scientist, clinical biochemist, forensic scientist, nanotechnologist, pharmacologist, research scientist (physical sciences), toxicologist. With these jobs, individuals working in any of chemistry related occupation, for example, a chemist can earn around $57,391 per year, a quality control chemist earns around $47,000 per year and an analytical chemist can earn an average of $52,000 per year. At the moment, I have not decided on what my future occupation will be but I know it will be something related to chemistry and that’s why I chose it as major and it will open many occupational opportunities for me. But in order for me achieve any future occupation; I need to set reasonable and achieveable goals. In addition, I will need to be discipline in everything I do now college because time management is very important and it is one of the major keys to success in the future. In order for me to reach my career goal, I will need to stop procrastinating, I have to be able to accomplish assignments or task within the time limit without pushing them to later. I always have to be a better version of myself and employ GRIT in whatever I am doing. Lastly, to be resilient, that is, I need to be able to bounce back from difficult situations and to achieve this; I need to follow the ABC’s of bouncing back. They include; Accepting, that is, accepting my reactions, accept change as part of living, accept positive views of myself and accepting help and support from other. Secondly, Balancing, I have to be able to balance my selfcare and I need to be optimistic. And thirdly, I need to be able to Confront opportunities for self-

discovery and challenges or failure. UAB’s career and professional development has really helped me in regards of choosing a career. They organize fairs and events with employees and employers in the business world and they talk and share their experiences with us. This talk helps me get a better understanding of any future career. And they also tell us some disadvantages or problems they encounter in their occupations. In addition, this center teaches me how to write a good CV and a resume. They offer internships or they have partnerships with different institutions or workforce that accepts us into their companies for internship, which is very beneficial because it exposes us to our future career. Also, they organize events on campus that employers come on campus to employ some students into their companies for internships. They also guide students like me who do not know their future career goal through a career path discussion. This center organizes sessions where students can discuss some of their interest and they help the student understand different types of professions in the workforce and help them choose a career that will be suitable for him/her.
